Cactus I was effectively joking with you hehe ..Actually sleeping in a cot with a nice warm sleeping bag when it is available, sure beats the bare rocks 100:1. Sides you aren't 1/2 beat up the next morning. I was complaining in jealousy shehs strawberries, steaks, radios, gad.

From the second series of photographs, I identified wth you , you did just fine my friend.

TT,

I thought I was replying in the spirit, but maybe I should have put more :) :) :) in my answers.

When you move through the country that we did, all day long, it was not bad to sleep on air mattresses.

I always said: Too much gear.......get us another packhorse. Check or cash??? :D

B,

One trip with my kind of camp, and I doubt you will ever look back. :o

First picture is after we combed the Superstitions up close. Second picture is Duane coming to pack us out in 1999. No trail to this camp and straight down on both sides.

B,

There were only three of us on this 1999 trip. The other two were family.

We were some distance from the area we were going to search. In all of our expeditions, we went into different areas to search, sometimes splitting into two, sometimes three groups. Given we only had six to seven days, it required manpower. At my age, I no longer have the time to splash around in the kiddy-pool. Had to get into deep water right away. Not everyone has time to waste.

The Stone Maps cover a large area. Desert floor to almost 5,000 foot elevation. On that trail you will see just about every type of desert plant. You will also find pine trees. In your travels in the Superstitions, I am sure you have seen the same.

We never saw another person in our main search area.

It is no longer a secret now. Anyone who wants to know the area of the Stone Maps and the exact trail, has only to ask.

Take care,

cj

Dang, air mattresses - does that ever bring back some memories! My first was an Army surplus, that "seemed" to hold air very well, until about 3 AM when you woke up because of the rocks and roots digging into your ribs. :o :D I think that thing had more patches than original surface! Mrs Oro had one freeze to the ground (during a canoe trip in Canada) so hard that we could not get it loose for hours. They sure have improved air mattresses over the years - I now have one of the fancy-schmancy self-inflating types, I guess it has sponge rubber inside (feels like it anyway) and have never had a leak with it yet. That reminds me... :-\ ;D :D

i have found part of one rock wall and a rock house . the wall could be a stone house i am not sure yet ,,..

is your 38 a stub nose they have a faster action than the single six . my self i like the slower action. lets you time your aim between shots ,the smaller cal makes less shock in the aim as well as in the wrest .a better over all controll and pattern.. the 4 1/2 is a true fast draw in 32 . weighing far less than most higher cals .. your 38 is more compack than the 32 . yet the 32 looks great as a side arm .

the bad thing is the cost of shells for the 32 ..

i like seeing how you other guys go in the mts and what your expeditions look like . for me i can only do so much being a far ways trip to the mt .. out of state sucks but . thats part of the game i guess ...

i am with you guys on the good food part . i am a great cook and omlets and french toast with bacon and hot coffie sounds good .. MRE's can get old fast yet at times they are need for high country ... there was a food store near 60 and we got some food there , the secound expedition that nice to have a place with in 10 miles away that and mc dee ...
largre strawberry shake takes that dust right out of ya !

A quality double action also has the single action feature for accurate, long range shooting.

Also far less stopping power than a .38 Full wadcutter. The weight difference for 18 rnds is insignificant.

the 4 1/2 is a true fast draw in 32 . weighing far less than most higher cals

The 4 - 41/2 " barrel is the most practical, no effective loss of accuracyjust just a few fps.

Hey if you are going to carry a pistol, you should put many hundreds of rnds though it long before setting out. Once in there the cost and weight of say 18 rnds is insignificant.

Strawberry shake? sheesh a sissy. hehehhe.

I remember when I returned from the Pacific, all of the men were saying that the first thing that they were going to do was go to a bar and get drunk, however, I always found them slurping up a milk shake ehehe they tried to hide, but it was too late. I suppose the fact that we were under 21 had something to do with it, not with getting booze, but still kiddies yet..

Soo bowman you are entering yer second childhood? I am into my third, sniff.

HI cactus mi friend, I have been wanting to ask you err, ah, did you ever grab the wrong cactus pad? Or inadvertently sit down too close to the mother plant? No skeeters to hasten the process? - ask BETH & ORO about this hehehehhe.

TT,

Juno got into a few cholla on his first trip in. He would then try to bite the pods off, getting them in his nose and face. I kept pliers within reach. After the first couple of encounters, he kept his head moving left and right looking for the pesky plants. Smart dog.

I like to think I was, at least, as smart as Juno. :)
