Good morn...uh..afternoon all ye aboard the RCT!:hello:

Sure some high waves ...& s-n-o-w...ahhh! Don't say it!
More cometh!
I hear there was a party on the upper deck...so who kept throwing the harpoon at me as I tried to get on deck????????
I see MsBeeps finally showed up. I was about to radio the Coast Guard.

I was referring to them changing how they refer to dates, simply to not be "politically incorrect". Namely, one nation...under who? The truth and nothing but, so help me who? "BC" "AD" :nono:

Yaknowaddameanvern?

I'm missing something some how. Then again dumb as a sack full of hammers is me on the subject of the BC/AD origin. Though I have heard a song by AC/DC if that helps.

I went back to the furnace today, and talked to the owner. He told me stories about how his grandmother was 15 when she saw the Yankees come by and parade in front of the furnace. Her father helped build it, and he worked there until his death. He showed us where every building was, and what else was around. And then came the bad news. Back in the 1960s, he dozed EVERYTHING. not just the top of the hill, but EVERYTHING around the furnace for as far as the eye could see for his cows. Then, he built his yard up with FIVE FEET of fill before building his house there. The whole site is shot. I found half of a double bitted axe, but that was it for five hours of detecting. Everything is buried. Our only hope is that his nephew gives us permission to detect his house. The only problem is, his nephew is a stingy fellow.

Jim,

My latin is a bit rusty but here goes BC refers to before Christ. AD is actually Anno Domini which stands for the in the year of the lord which is where the current calendar started.

It's sea shanty time!

'As I was a-rolling down paradise street
to me way blow the an down
a sassy flash packet I chanced for to meet
give me some time to blow the man down
of the port that she hailed from I couldn't say much
to me way blow the man down
but by her appearance I took her for Dutch
give me some time to blow the man down
her flag was three colors her mast head was low
to me way blow the man down
she was round in the corners and plump in the bow
give me some time to blow the man down
I fired my bow mortar the signal she knew
to me way blow the man down
she drew up her courses and to me hove to
give me some time to blow the man down
I hailed her in English she answered me clear
to me way blow the man down
"I'm from The Black Arrow bound to The Shakespeare"
give me some time to blow the man down
I tipped her my flipper and took her in tow
to me way blow the man down
and yardarm to yardarm away we did go
Give me some time to blow the man down!'

What a drag, Arrgh!

But, Rusty Relics, long long ago some Persian dude whose name escapes me wrote all about these kinds of things. Much later on and still long ago an English dude (whose name escapes me) translated it thusly-

" ...t'is all a checker board of night and days where destiny with men for pieces plays
hither and thither moves and mates and slays and one by one back in the closet lays
above about around below this nothing but a magic shadow show
played in a box whose candle is the sun 'round which we phantom figures come and go
the ball no question makes of aye's and no's but left and right as strike the players goes
And He that tossed the into the sea, He knows it all- He knows, He knows!"

So you ask that stingy fellow for permission Rusty Relics. If you don't give that ball a kick you will never get it rolling...

Maybe you can work out a deal. :dontknow:

Not real sure but I suspect B.C. stands for something in Latin just as A.D. does. It's the pope's calandar after all. Pope Julius IIRC? And, all the popes speak Latin. They used to only say mass in Latin, mostly so that the common man could not figure out what they were saying I suspectRoman Catholic Mass does not exactly jive with biblical teachings[/murmur]

G'night Cap'n! :icon_salut:

But....beggin' the Cap'ns pardon. If ya doesn't mind too much...might I suggest lookin' at a new ship? Ya sees, Cap'n...I've been a noticin' of late. That this one has been listing a lot lately. Its strange but it first lists to the "right"....then...back to the "left". Appears to me...this ship couldn't hold a course true no matter what the winds.
IMLLTHO ....of course, Cap'n. :tongue3:

What on earth is wrong with this one ? ? ?

This is what the RCT looks like.

Duckshot,

Well this is the supposed definition for what it's worth....mind you the current calendar which is Gregorian versus the earlier one still followed by the Eastern orthodox practitioners Julian, unfortunately, got messed up by the monk who was documenting it at the time.

Turns out if memory serves me correctly we could be off by something like 34 years as to the birth of Christ and what our calendar is based on.....glad to see people were messing up even then so not just some recent scenario.....:laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:

We are too cheap for a real table cloth... so we will use the rugs :P

Why....shiver me timbers, Cap! It is a fine ship! Just keeps listing to the "right" or the "left".
