Well here we are with spring right around the corner. So where are the new machines? ML with some gold machine, and Tesoro with another box machine(I guess these can't fail when you build on top of proven platforms) I say BIG DEAL! Where is the real innovation? Where is the machine that makes us go, "WOW"? If they are planning a march release, then I guess they haven't learned from other companies, which released machines in the spring time. I say it time and time again, release in September. And what about the Deus? My father's theory was they were waiting to see what is coming out. Disappointments all around.

.....They also watch other companies to see what they are doing as well. If they see them re-branding, then, it is possible they will follow suit......

No. On the contrary: If they see others asleep at the wheel (re-branding, etc...), then ALL THE MORE REASON to be the first to the market place with the "better mousetrap".

.....Nothing magical about technology......

But if it's an impossible task (violating the laws of physics), then yes: That's magic. Not technology.

.... Technological gains advance exponentially.....

Sure. But it still can not do that which is impossible.

The body size/weight vs. wing area ratio.

That's not a spec that would rule out ability to fly. If it did, no one would have bothered designing helicopters.

Having said that, you have a right to disagree with me and I encourage people to, however, NO ONE deserves to be berated and belittled...

Would that include calling companies cheap & lazy, and engaging in conspiracies to intentionally hold back technology just so they can continue selling rebranded models? Maybe instead of the belittling comments you make yourself, you could ask some intelligent questions about technology, then stick around long enough to learn something.

It seems like if people don't like the subject. or don't have an answer, they attack the poster. Like I thought, It's a waste of time trying to pursue this any further.

Wishful thinking, a facile acquainance with some buzz-words - it's fine at the bar. When you are betting millions of your own dollars on a development project - sobriety sets in - pretty rapidly.

No you have not wasted your time. You asked a valid question, and you got the correct answer. It's not the answer any of us wants to hear, but ... as Rick says, sometimes the truth is sobering.

Sure, it's much more fun to dream of something better . But to get a sobering reality answer, is not to "attack you". It's to "answer" you. Don't confuse the two.

Some fixed wing pilots would argue that they don't "fly"! :laughing7: Shows you what a good imagination against the "impossible" can do. :icon_thumleft:

Angels have fixed wings (OK, they presumably flap, but they don't bloddy rotate!).

Ha, well in that case, it wasn't impossible then. If something comes along, that defies earlier notions of "impossible", it only means they were mistaken earlier-on. It doesn't mean: "Therefore nothing is impossible".

I asked a few questions the last of which was:

"I will now ask you Carl, do you really believe that technology can't be increased in this field? With advancements in ALL the different types of technologies in all the different fields, that a method of detecting metal in the ground so many inches can't be improved, refined, or exceeded?"

The answer I got(insult bolded)?

"Would that include calling companies cheap & lazy, and engaging in conspiracies to intentionally hold back technology just so they can continue selling rebranded models? Don't get me wrong, I got some great answers on here, but when I was pressed further, the discussion turned into a melee because my ideas were outside the norm.

I understand what you are saying when you say, If there were innovations MD companies would have made them. I disagree and that is where we all seem to lock horns. I can't change your mind and you can't change mine. It's not that I am not seeing reality, it's that I believe that, with all the advancements I have seen, that there SHOULD be major improvements.

You and I cannot say what is possible or impossible, but we can discuss ideas rationally. IDK, like I said, with this thread and the oak island one, its like pulling teeth.

.... do you really believe that technology can't be increased in this field? ...

Sure it can. So long as the idea mused is a "possible" idea, and not an impossible idea.

... You and I cannot say what is possible or impossible....

Huh ? Most certainly you and I can say certain things are impossible. Here's an example: Can you take a pen and paper, and draw a square circle ? Of course you can't. That's "impossible". Because it's a logical contradiction.

In the same way there are most certainly things that can defy the laws of physics, and not be possible.

If you think that was an insult you need to seriously thicken your skin!

Yeah, sometimes us guys talk in slap-happy sarcastic tones. Ie.: sarcasm can just be a way to get the other person to think about a certain point of view, that you're trying to persuade them to.

I gatta say just reading some of the features that are desired in a 2017 detector makes me want to swing a tesoro and I'm in that "techy" 31 years of age. Purchased an E-trac last year but honestly enjoy swinging my at-pro more for its simplicity and it simply gets on the goods. But I'm an old soul and just getting out to the woods and digging some holes is enjoyment for me. More about the history of the find than its monetary value. And instead of sitting at home going over coordinates and vdi numbers id rather just go out and swing it again. Not knocking anyone's approach, to each there own I guess but I think to truly enjoy this hobby you have to be ok with going home with just a clear head and some fresh air :dontknow:

If you can fold the paper into more than 2 dimensions, I think you can? :dontknow:

Well then that's not "drawing" then is it? My example of something that is logically impossible, (a logical contradiction) is to draw a square circle with a pen on a paper. Not origami . If we want to extend the example to origami, then sure: The instructions then would be to "make the shape of a square spherical globe".

Can't be done. It's a logical contradiction. No amount of "infinite power" can accomplish that which is logically non-sensical.

can someone please tell me why GPS is even remotely usable in metal detecting??
Dan I have literally hiked in 5 miles and stood on top of a foundation and HAD NO IDEA it was under me.

New platforms will appear. They will be RF - transmit/receive devices. They will utilize more than one frequency at a time. They will process signals in ways not done before. They will require fewer controls. They will provide new modes of operator feedback.

I'll set my calendar alert for 1 January 2019 and check if my predictions were correct.

B, the reason I got annoyed is that you started out the conversation by calling detector companies cheap & lazy, and suppressing new technology. There are real people behind the detector companies, I'm one of them, and your comments are personally insulting.

Nevertheless, I put that aside when you previously started this in another forum, and I offered you real feedback and real alternatives. Apparently you weren't interested in that kind of conversation, so you went elsewhere and posted the same insults.

If you really want to know why things are they way they are, maybe try an approach where you ask questions and engage in a real conversation instead of jumping to conclusions. I suggest starting a new thread for that. And I'll be more than happy to respond with an insider's view.
