Spent all day in the water......got spikes, pottery, and fire brick. No coins !! The storm uncovered a large area of ballast in 4 feet of water !! What a stellar day.

I'm looking for your opinions. :icon_scratch:
My question is, how much farther should I go with this piece?

I found this brass candlestick finger loop last weekend and have decided to re-purpose it into a wearable ring, either for the farmer or myself. I've spent the past few evenings hand filing it down to remove the side bits and taking off the rough edges. I even used 220grit wet sandpaper on it to smooth out the unevenness of the metal. I would like to have either the initial 'K' or 'P' etched into the shield on top. I was also thinking about having some detail added to the sides that still have the verdigris on it. It's fairly clear to me that this piece has been in a fire at some point, as the surface looks to be burnt. I was thinking about removing the remaining verdigris, then tumbling it to polish it to resemble gold or should I just leave the remaining verdigris and have an initial etched into the shield? :dontknow:

Below you can see pics of the ring through the process so far. The last pic is another finger loop that I found in 2014 and made into a ring, I gave this one to the farmer as well.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

I'm not an expert on restoration...maybe send a pm to Tom and ask his opinion.

He's our local expert on the subject.

Dave
For a minute there I was thinking a reins guide for a small buggy but I must have been mistaken. It really turned out nice.

This is the way I'm leaning too Bart, I really don't like the look of the 'black' finish on the brass.

It's definitely the remains of a candle stand finger loop.
