3 A.M. wake up to sound of wood blocks/rounds being thunked together.
Ran the spotlight on the log pile to see if a bear was digging in it or climbing around, nothing. And no , tracks were not checked for...
Bucket load of tractor still intact.

While I realize not all is known of what exists in the forests , I don't subscribe to bigfoot tree knocking here.
I'll check for tracks later , but don't expect to find anything unusual.
A cool night. Could have been wood deck planks contracting out back , the opposite direction I thought the sounds were from. Or were across the road at a neighbors. (?)

This is interesting WP, I wonder if it was either a porcupine of possibly a beaver if you're located near the water or the woods. :icon_scratch:
Let us know if you find out what it was.

Or a "porcupine beaver"... half porcupine... half beaver... I heard they have been active.

I knew a girl once that reminds me of. :P

Nothing convincing.
A trapper would go hungry here , at least this former one would. Though I've seen bear ,fox, racoon, possum over the years.
No water ,leastways not enough for beaver or muskrats. No porkies noted , and no sights of bark chewing in the area. They do exist in the region though. Hundred plus year old oak is the predominant specie. Stuff that followed the logging era of whitepine here.

The only tracks from after I was out in the evening are from the neighbors cat. Or some other cat.
Nearest log pile is quite a ways away but shows no displacement noticeable. A fairly secure pile of heavy timber lengths in a staging area , but a bear could molest it no problem. No indication of such though.
Father away where neighbors are burning tops , there's some smaller stock that could have been disturbed from their cat. But is out of hearing range , and would be muted too as close to the ground as it is.

I didn't have the window open so it had to be close or quite loud.
Tractor bucket load still secure after double checking , and no tracks in the sand/gravel drive .

Checked entrance to old trail into woods nearby. No traffic there either.

Temp has increased quite a bit and no pops of expansion noted. Eventually today the East side exterior wall siding should expand enough for a couple quieter snapping sounds. It don't thunk.

If close , the dogs will note decking rapid expansion too. At least they holler in the winter on cold nights as boards contract and nails pop.

Buenos Noches amigos!

Must have been those pesky woodchucks chuckin' wood!

Someone should chuck wood.

Tried out the Norland tomahawk style/Hudson Bay style axe. Needs paint stripped off it and a better handle. 7 inch length of head and 5 inch bit. 2 lbs.(?)

Why Norland called it a hawk escapes me. But that's their design name of it. Vs the smaller Voyageur ,or the camper , or the whatever larger ones they built were called.

Spent some time looking for a boys axe handle for it online.
Crazy rabbit hole.....
There are some 28 inch poorer quality . The rest are not to be had without getting crazy on price.
Respected quality ones from reputable domestic manufacturers are not in stock. Beavertooth for example. A good company and good products you can order direct from.
A 26 inch should bring it down to 24 inch once hung. But now we're chasing hens teeth.

Bout like my last two big chain grocery shopping trips. Still no paper towel. L.o.l..

Norlund Co.

Morning web mates.

AARC... morning

Morning Rook.

Good morning ARC, morning rook.

See below a snip-it of the conversation I had with pepperj (Jim) yesterday...

“Crazy here, too many things going on at same moment.
Woke up and it's the end of August.
Now the push is on before winter.
Trees are changing already, scary. No time to play, or even to do any down time.

I'm not blind to the undercurrent of what the political beliefs are.
So instead my left shoulder making a statement, my right shoulder stepped in and said take a break.
So, to make a long story short, busy, busy.”

In other words, it sounds like Jim's going to be taking a break from Tnet for a while. :icon_scratch:

I wish pepperj well. I hope he comes back soon.

So do I rook.
A lot like my wife, I think he just needs a little time to cool off, he sounded a tad stressed yesterday. :laughing7:

Good morning Bill.
