The History of Samuel Ball is very interesting. Seems he has some lost years and or inaccurate dates based on that 2nd link.( Who's worried about dates on here anyway ) Maybe he was the best cabbage grower in the area and truely earned his money that way.. Is strange that he was adamant on buying Lot 24 if that part is true. Maybe he had insider info about something maybe being on that lot, or maybe it was one of the few in that area that was for sale and it had boat dock near it so that would be a plus to keep from having to build one.. or maybe it was already cleared and would be easier to farm on..At some point he bought another island from one of the original 3 for 5 pounds supposedly. Which seems cheap compared to what he paid for Lot 24.. Is there more to that maybe.. At some point he had a friend or befriended a Captain of a ship that was hauling money of some sort that some believe he had embezzled some of and bought a lot beside Ball and later left it to him in his death. Might be more to all that as well.. I think in his death he left his house to his current wife but in her death it would go to his butler/hand and I think he also got most of everything else. Don't remember all the details in his will.. One of the original 3 was his estate executor so he might could have helped hide/divide up any fortune he did have to keep it off the books/papers....
