Basic signs and symbols you have found

You all have been talking about ugly signs and symbols, but this is probably one if the coolest looking ones that was just spotted.

This goes back to rjwmam's Horse Head,

I think Thom is correct. The only reason a horse pins it's ears flat against it's' head like that is anger at what it's being asked to do. Use the head as a pointer, and look for a way to go that's very hard, steep, rocky, overgrown, etc. Since a horse head is being used as a marker, look for horseshoe shaped markings ahead. When a maker started with a theme, they usually stuck with it.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

On the same subject, after further review of the picture, I don't think the eye is in the correct position for that to be a horse.

IF and I say IF this is a Spanish Monument, it may well be a DRAGON HEAD. That would tell you to look to the Bible and see what it says about Dragons.

There are many references to dragons in the Bible. Funny enough, when Dragons are mentioned, OWLS are almost always mentioned (except in Revelations). Look at the surrounding rocks to see if you can find any shapes or shadows that are owlish in nature. If you can, then it is likely guiding you to water. Here are a couple of relevant passages:

Isaiah 43 20: The beast of the field shall honor me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

Isaiah 35 7: And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons (my insertion here: that means deserts and mountains), where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes (a spring maybe).

Because the way to the spring is concealed in Bible Verse, the spring may be concealed as well. That way animals could not foul it. It may be hidden under rocks. Maybe the Dragon points the way, and the Owl is at the location.

Just another possibility.

ALWAYS REMEMBER: If you are hunting Spanish Colonial Monuments, there is always a great chance that markers and monuments are to be translated via pertinent Bible Verses.

If anybody seriously plans on hunting Spanish Colonial or early Mexican stuff, then you are foolish if you don't invest $40-60 in one of those Franklin Pocket Bibles. Just make sure it has keyword search. That way, if rjwmam finds a dragon way up on the side of a mountain, all he has to do is reach in his rucksack and grab his electronic bible to possibly find a pertinent Bible Passage that applies to his set of monuments. Sometimes it can be a single verse along a trail, or, as in the case if finding a Tobias (or Tobit) Cross at the beginning of a trail, it could mean read an entire book to get the full meaning.

"Tobias was a man who went through many hardships on a mission from God, but he believed, stayed the course, and in the end was rewarded with riches."

Yep....On my way out i found three saguaro that were topped and one that had a square notch cut into it facing the canyon i had just come out of. The cut is between 12 and 15 feet off the ground.....so they were done some time ago, From what i understand the Mexicans would use the cactus in such a way to mark trails.
Its neat to find things like that.........But you never really know whats original(Before AZ became apart of the U.S.) or what was made 20-50 years ago by ranchers / prospectors or vandals !!!!!!!

Also to give you some perspective on the cacti growing on that trail..............The brushy overgrowth is chest high.

T Parker,
The cactus signs you mentioned are probably Mexican in origin.
The Spanish were ordered to make signs that would last eons.
If they used a cactus to create the sign it would be a perishable one,
that was against the king's orders.

What you are saying is that the Mexicans who followed the Spanish ...Knew about this place as well.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

How about this. These can only be seen by walking up the canyon if you head down you would miss them. These are in Southeast California.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

The pics in post #670 were taken by a nature photographer. He has no clue about Spanish markers or gold. I am working on getting the GPS numbers from him. I do know that it is south of Bradshaw ferry crossing and north of the potholes. I know that is a lot of desert. Here is another looking down, you will see nothing at all.

Hey SurferJoe,

Your face is a very good one. I don't know about all the other stuff, but if you could get the GPS of that canyon from your friend, I would suggest finding that face, then stand in front of it, and look where its looking. See if you can see anything out of the ordinary.

Joe,
Mike has given great council.
In post 139 you will notice I mentioned trails that only lead one way
The faces point generally in the direction the trails lead.
they will not be noticeable coming from the wrong direction.

gollum

I am going to take your advice and check it out. It seem to me that both faces are looking to the other side of the canyon. I wish I had a pic of that side. Just waiting for the location of this canyon.

Yep :)

It has come to my attention today 6/29/09 that it is not photoshopped
It is an actual mountain in NC called "Grandfather MT"
Sorry about the mistake.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Hi Kim,

I looks a lot like an elephant,
I can't see what the head looks like but there appears to be a face chiseled into the side.

By now you have realised two of this sign at different locations...
the same sign maker may be working here.

What do you think?
