Guru,

Nice picture.
It shows both the sign and the previous as well.
Good trail confirmation.
Well done
Thom

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

With all of the talk lately about hoyos (holes).
I thought I would post one that shows both the hoyo and the next sign.
The hoyo is about 12 inches across and it was taken so that the pointer in the hoyo lines up with the sign it wants you to find.
It also gives a great view of the countryside.
LOL

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

beautiful scenery indeed! Very similar to the hoyo out by Castle Rock where Teresa used to play. Very handy for them to have the hoyo be a window to the next sign. Thanks for posting this pic...it illustrates things quite well my friend! :icon_study: :icon_study:

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Say you find a trail marker. Is there a general guideline for the distance in which the next marker should be found? Or does this vary? In other words, is there a distance you can use to say "I have gone too far and need to backtrack and look again"?

Thanks again for all of the excellent information. I am learning a lot!

The only time I have ever followed markers that were far apart was when following a major trail.
These markers will be as far apart as5 to 8 miles,
these you can follow from a mile away in the bottom of a canyon.
As you pass one... the next is visible in the distance.

However the signs shown through these hoyos are quite a bit different,
Rarely are they more than 30 or 40 feet away.
In the picture there is a cliff about 35 feet awayand these signs or pointers are on the edge ,
they were meant to send a person to the right ... down canyon.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

I've took some more pics in a different location. some rock carvings were pointing in this direction from beetle butt area. This area is about 1 mile from beetle butt. There is so much of this stuff it gets overwhelming. Everything starts to take on a shape or form of something. What the signs say is beyond me. But all of these pics come from a relitively small area . about 200 yards square. Thanks to all who have PM'd comments and replies, Here are some more for those who doubt. Any and all comments are welcome. There will be more pics to come. I am learning from all your knowlegde and truly appreciate all, Thanks again.

Edong ,
Thom is not ignoring you .Currently he is 2,000 miles away from his computer caring for his very ill Mother.
He should be back online by the end of the week if things go well . No telling how long it will take him to catch up with the backlog of messages on Tnet and other places .

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Remembering I've never found anything and this is just speculation.... there are a lot of potentials that i see. However a lot could be natural. There are some possibles that stand out for me.

This first one..well i'd run out of pixels if i pointed out all the possibles.
but the open mouthed figure with an eye I labeled fish looks kind of solid to me. I noticed in some of the other pictures some of the boulders might have been smoothed and hollowed out by water. Perhaps there is water not too far.

In this one i fancifully outlined a bird. Though it looks like other things to me too. Then the lines of sight my eyes were drawn too. Its what i would consider more closely and check out to see if there were other possible markers. What is that stubby little figure in the midst of the boulders that looks like it might have a dark rock hat on it? Is it rock or cactus?
