Got up early and took my son detecting to I site I've hit a dozen times. Last two times didn't get anything but was going to try to find trash pit. We walked about a mile in the woods and was just about there and I was hunting the side of the hill beside the original road hoping they threw their trash towards the river. When I got a solid hit. Best day hunting in over a year! I stumbled upon a central Virginia Hut site, which is something I've ALWAYS wanted to dig. I HAVE to tell you the story of mostly dumb luck that led me to it. I had hunted this known camp for years, and this trip had yielded 10 bullets, a shell frag, bucks and some other stuff.



I got another bullet signal, but on the way to the bullet I unearthed an obviously 19th century bottle neck. The bullet was an inch or so beneath. I thought to myself, "This deserves at least a little exploration." I got below the plow...

I had a amazing hunt today with some friends at a new cellar hole property. We all did very well and all went home with old coppers and old silvers. My find of the day and i still cant believe i found one is a 1778 mexico city mint 8 reales. I never thought i would get one of these. It was a good signal but i had to work for it under tree roots. Woooo hoooo !! I got one !! A big old fat, chunky, full size, dated piece of eight cob !! Took 5 hunts after the hurricane to get a cob. Only been out of the sand for an hour. Beautiful low tide hunt at the hurricane hole, wasn't there 45 minutes before I got the cob. Found another strap keeper from the wreck too. What a great morning.

Yesterday I decided to head back to a woods spot I hunted once before.
I’ve found a couple of musket balls and square nails the last time I went there so I knew this site had potential.

When I dug this cross it was covered in dirt,but I knew it was Silver cause of the signal I got.

It was only when I cleaned it thou that I noticed it was a silversmiths handmade Cross.

No makers mark on it and don’t know the exact age of the Cross,but I love the art work on it.

Well this find surely made my Day.

Probably should have titled this, check out your finds right away, dummy. But I wander away from the point. I went to the beach...again...went over some of the old places I normally detect...again...I watch where the crowds go, where the "events" are held, etc. and then go behind them to see what they lose.

I'm still shaking as I'm typing this. My buddy Craig and I had some time to get out for a short hunt today. We went to an old home site we had hunted in the past. There was an 1840s house on that property that was demolished about 5 or 6 years ago. We were hoping to find some old coins or other interesting relics, but all we were really finding was junk. HI EVERYONE, I HAD A UNEVENTFUL SUMMER AND RIGHT AT THE END OF MY LAST DAYS A VACATION, I FOUND 2 OF MY VERY BEST BUTTONS. I FOUND A GW INAUGURAL CUFF BUTTON AND A MASS REGt BUTTON. THE GW BUTTON IS MUCH SMALLER THAN YOU NORMALLY SEE, ITS ONLY 18MM. I COULDN'T BELIEVE I FOUND THIS STRETCH OF WOODS IN NJ THAT LOOK LIKE IT WAS GOING TO BE A WASTE OF TIME, THEN WOW. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT WAS A GW BUTTON TILL I GOT HOME.
I ADDED SOME PICS OF THE OTHER STUFF I FOUND, I ALSO FOUND 2 8PD CANNONBALLS, BUT I THEY ARE STILL SOAKING IN EVAPORUST.
