Top Treasure Finds

This involves a long story, so bear with me. The titular find occurred yesterday, but I’m a touch late in posting it because I’m still in shock.

This story starts last weekend really. In the Pacific Northwest, we don’t have the benefit of hundreds of years of history like other parts of the country. But we make do with what we got.

Last Saturday, I found a site that was untouched. My theory is that it was dirt that had been moved from a previous site and sat still since the 1950s or so. I ended up finding 9 silvers the first day...

Was having a dud of an outing today. That was until I had a screaming half dollar signal on the Manticore. Solid tight 95 in all directions at 4 bars deep. Right off a hiking path in a popular set of woods that I've never been to with my buddy. I called him over after I had the signal and was calling my target as a half dollar. He agreed with me after swinging his nox over it.

That's three gold coins in as many years for me.
It's a hot day today but with a nice breeze that makes it tolerable despitenthe temps and so I headed onto some pasture on a farm just outside an old village here in Lancashire England.
Was only swinging the coil for 10-15 minutes and right out of the blue this little blighter popped up. Could just see the rim sticking out the turf and knew instantly i'd struck gold.
The rest of the session was terrible but I really didnt care to be honest.
Came up a solid 18 on the Nox 800 at onky a few inches deep.

At first I thought it was a trade token because of the shape, then saw the seated and thought play money? With hopes high, upon cleaning revealed a seated dime love token! A 2 for 1 crossed off the bucket list.

Found it at a small intersection street tearout this last week. It was loaded with square nails too, but the seated was the only good find I made there. It was very shallow not masked.

My first thought is the letter(s) between the K & D is 2 "L" but I'm not sure. Could also be 2 I, U, or just symbols to seperate KD. Any insight?[ATTACH type="full"...

Hit a field today that has produced Spanish reales and early US coppers, today I didn't find any coins but I did recover a early wax letter seal and a few buttons and lead. I'm pretty sure this site is probably my oldest .

I have been metal detecting since 2013. This hobby can be an addicting one that presents ever increasing challenges to find new permissions as well the never ending pursuit of topping your last “best find”. While some chase the latest tech or shell out money for paid hunts, ultimately the only thing that matters is time spent swinging the coil. For any detectorist, finding a gold coin is a top dream…but for me my interests reside in early American colonial sites. While I would be thrilled to recovered a 19th century gold, I’ve always dreamed of finding a colonial gold coin.

Doing mostly public places I don't usually have hunts like this. I've been working a vast area of old farm land. Lot of ground to cover. Needle in hay stack of shotgun shells type place. Got the usual shot shell signal and saw a class ring in the clump.

*1943 10k ring from Bever College. I definitely snagged the bottom of band with shovel. Nothing a jeweler can't fix. It's been sized once and appears to have a crack in one of the sizing seams. 9.11 grams with center stone.

*Had a low tone out of the fields on a trail. A destroyed wallet and I was picking up its snap button and zipper...

After lunch i decided to go to his field where he has found countless Romans, just to annoy him! Haven’t posted here in a while, but todays find has blown my mind and I wanted to share it.
Today I was digging an old oyster shell road near downtown that has been recently disturbed by construction.
Last week I found a 1845 LC and a 1853 half dime at this location.
Decided to go back and made one of my best finds ever.
1852 10 dollar California gold rush era, gold coin.

I never knew this variation existed.
First I thought bottle cap. Then I saw the writing and I thought car wash token, or arcade token. Then flipped it over and saw the eagle. OMG...

I took a half-day off from work this past Friday to start the new detecting year. The year got off to a good start when I dug this 1798 Draped Bust cent at a former home site in the woods. Not a rare date, but it is in nice shape. I also dug this Waterloo half penny or token, which I thought was a Hibernia coin at first. It features a portrait of Wellington, who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo. As I understand it, they were minted for circulation in lower Canada.
