🥇 BANNER Confederate Navy Button!

Confederate Navy Button!
Went out early this morning for a couple hours before the heat got unbearable! I would have to say it was worth it. Found this CSN coat button laying on top of the ground after getting a good solid signal. Look down and see and shank peeking out of the dirt. Hard to believe after 150+years and cows stomping all around this beauty that it stayed right on top for that long and remains intact. The backmark is about as rare as it gets for a CSN button. Hebbert & Co. London but can't find much info on it. Most of the London backmarks are a different manufacturer. Could be cleaned a little more...

🥇 BANNER Incredible! 1788 8 Reales and 1786 Vermont Landscape Copper!!!

Incredible! 1788 8 Reales and 1786 Vermont Landscape Copper!!!
I'm absolutely floored; I would have never expected to find so much at this site! Just a little background first: I met with a local historian on Saturday who was a friend of a friend. We had an absolutely great time swapping maps and talking about local lore and stories. He has this fantastic hand-drawn map from 1714 that has just 5 houses on it and the rest is wilderness and hills. Super cool to look at, but probably not much use for finding old sites. :laughing7: After awhile he walked me around his property which is a beautiful early 1800's house and across the street is an 1830's...

🥇 BANNER Gold and Diamonds at the Shore!

Gold and Diamonds at the Shore!
I don't post much anymore because I don't get out detecting as much as I used to, but I finally took a long overdue vacation down the Jersey Shore. I took 3 detectors that I thought were most suited for the beach, a Minelab Excalibur, and both the White's Dual Field PI and MX Sport. I used the Excalibur for a good part of the week finding usual bottlecaps, junk rings, one diamond stud earring and plenty of coins (including a few older pennies in remarkable shape for beach finds) but didn't have the charger so when the battery was drained I moved over to the MX Sport.

I had never used...

🥇 BANNER 1733 colonial sundial and others

1733 colonial sundial and others
Got out to my friends property and scored these finds in a swampy low area near the homesite. After a few hours of beating the mud and shallows, I got a screamer of a signal that turned out to be the sundial. I cleaned it to give it some eye appeal and will need to find an expert skilled in restoring a piece like this. Thanks for looking!

🥇 BANNER KILLER CIRCA 1850S MILITIA BELT PLATE!!

KILLER CIRCA 1850S MILITIA BELT PLATE!!
Saturday I wanted to get out for a while, but my options are limited this time of year. I drove down to a circa 1790-1815 house site hoping that the farmer had cut the hay. He had cut it, but he hadn’t bailed it yet, so that field was unhuntable. So I drove over to another of his farms that has a standing, but abandoned, house on it that looks like it could date to the 1830s. I call this place the buckle graveyard because all I ever find here is horse tack buckles. I have dug about two dozen horse tack buckles here, but I have never found anything good, not even an Indian Head penny...

🥇 BANNER First Ever Washington Inaugural Button

I went everywhere and dug everywhere over the weekend. First couple spots produced a wad of colonial items. I still have to get pics of those.

The last spot of the day yesterday was an unknown in the woods. Besides getting a tick, the area is rich in history along a major river. I had fond a place to access the river (it was kinda creepy back there), and dug the usual garbage and some nice 18th and 19th century buttons. I did not find any musket balls but believe I found an old homestead.

I had not intended on staying long due to the trash. I had used my Cibola. It hadn't been out...

🥇 BANNER Gold Coin!!

Gold Coin!!
After a long weekend of coaching soccer I managed to get out for a hunt. While walking to the main site I decided to swing through what had always seemed to be a modern trashy area. First signal, gold Victoria head was looking back at me!
It’s a Newfoundland 2$ gold coin turned into a love token. The condition held up very well being on a salt water beach for about 100 years! As the date is gone, it can be narrowed down to either 1882 or 1888 as it is the ntd3 variety.
My first gold coin and I’m still shocked where it was found!

🥇 BANNER Ornate Silver Shoe Buckle

Ornate Silver Shoe Buckle
Out about 350 feet away from the root cellar and not getting anything besides shotgun shells. Then about 20 feet from a stone wall I got a solid 97 on the XP Deus' high frequency coil. The shoe buckle frame contains around .8 ounces of silver. I decided to keep the rusted chape, as it provides some authenticity and gives a nice bit of contrast to the silver frame. When I saw the shoe buckle come out of the ground it didn't look like silver at all. Glad I was wrong about that.
