Who decides whether we live or die ????

Boy it must be frustrating when you can't engage in intelligent debate and this is all you can say. What's next - "I know you are but what am I"?? If I'm on ignore why do you keep responding?? Do you need help getting ignore function to work??

Stocky you have to take a break and get off your recumbent bik e and mingle with us middle class people.

You've been with the wall street crowd to long to see how our world runs.

You have no clue who is breaking the bank as you put it. The abuse is not coming from the baby boomers they are the people who gave you a good life.

Gentlemen no personal insults towards each other....

Have me a good life?? They are the "ME" generation that are bankrupting the country with lavish socialist programs. I pay for my own healthcare every month, I don't get a gov card for drugs, healthcare or a gov socialist security check in my account. So please tell me how you or anyone else have provided me with anything. My $s head in one direction - into the gov coffers and i doubt i will ever see a cent of it back. And if you want to debate "having a clue" please provide all the facts you want. You folks sit back and whine about some poor single mother getting $150 bucks a month in foodstamps while your free Medicare healthcare is costing tens of thousands of dollars a year that you never even came close to contributing. And you feel entitled to it all without question. At least see the hypocrisy of it all. Your the ones that need to be thanking the future generations who will be paying off the debts of your lavish socialist programs. I hope you keep a picture of FDR above your bed - and a smaller one of Bush for your free socialist drug program.

That "poor single mother" you speak of gets way more than 150 in food stamps not to mention she as well gets health care, housing assistance, heating, cash, and in some cases free schooling. Often her child needs huge amounts of medical care and we pay for that. She most likely will spend her life on the system and her child will likely continue the practice. Lets be honest here and call it what it is. She as well as she gets older will need expensive care we all pay for. The difference is these other people have actually paid taxes for years and she has not.

the govt IRS attempted to "milk" $10.000 extra tax dollars out of me but in the end they wound up having to refund me $12.000 bucks when the smoke cleared -- I took them on by myself using their own "rules book" of rules --bet the twit that "flagged" me for "billing for extra money" by them got reamed royally -- you see I am Ivan R. Salis (IRS)

funny thing is they haven't bothered me since --LOL

She does not. That is the average monthly benefit for the snap program. I know it does not fit the view that "these people" are all bilking the gov and buying lobster and booze. Unfortunately that just isn't the case. I know it make people feel better about themselves if they think that people in need are all just lazy people scamming the rest of us. It's sad that people looking for an "enemy" to blame target the most vulnerable and downtrodden in our society. It's sad and people should be ashamed of themselves.

I had a very similar experience with the IRS - over 30 years ago.

I studied my tax return like a final exam, sorted, listed, and ready to answer - I was prepared.

Met with an agent, and we did some chit chatting. He started asking me questions, and I had it all right there. Even some joking along the way. I was personable, and he became personable.

He did hit me for around ~ $250

But! He also taught me a great deal about the why's, what fors, and other options I had.

He didn't have to do that. But I did not address him antagonistically, and he treated with respect.

And then I filed 3 years of amended returns based on his advice :)

It is a very clear case of how you treat the people you deal with and the difference in the results you achieve :)

Picker, as I said these people get more than one program. Nobody is looking for an enemy. I can assure you the poor get treated like royalty...

Can I hire you as my accountant? I just forked over 25000 to the irs and have to give another small fortune in a month.

Ivan, IRS, you always make me laugh! My cousin (vp for a power company), used to tell me how you beat them when you get called for an audit. He said never be totally prepared or have everything you're suppose to, waste their time and money, but always be prepared to have info for next meeting. He would then tell them to schedule the meetings at Pier 66, Tug Boat Annie's, Casey's in the Grove, etc..... He always beat his auditors out. LOL! He had never cheated the irs, had his ducks in order, but felt he had time, money, and a good enough sense of humor, he would just SO mess with them! LOL! He was sure a pistol, kinda like you!

I keep wondering how the death thread keeps going back to the IRS? :icon_scratch: oh, yeah.... :tongue3:

eta: sorry to hear about that crispin. they always told me, if you had to give uncle sam a bunch, it just means that you made a bunch! I never got the joke......

Hey! I taught you that trick way back when I pulled it on TH. You said you were going to use it...and you did.

I didnt think it merited a response! Treated like royalty? Come on, all kidding aside that is just wrong.

Ok, all kidding aside. Do you agree the average recipient is enrolled in more than just one program?

I would assume that they would be. Isn't food stamps different from welfare? I assume if you qualify for one you qualify for the other.

I just think it is naive to think people are living high on the hog with these programs. Take food stamps at 150 month. Ok that's 1800 year. Add on any other programs you want and tell me what you come up with?? This is really something that someone is going to aspire to live off?? Just do the math.

Many do, I know of several people getting everything from food stamps, heating assistance, electric assistance, free college, veterinarian care for their pets, pet food, rent assistance, healthcare, cell phones, house phones, renovations to their homes, cash, disability, drug addiction, mortgage help (like usda) free breakfast, lunch, and in some cases diner for kids at school, Earned income credit on taxes, free childcare (daycare not headstart), Headstart, free transportation, Homeless get free hotel stay with use of pool and gym (Tradewinds Rockland Maine) provided school supplies for kids, and on and on. Some of this does vary state to state...
