Fear the IRS? Damn straight! They can ruin your life!!! or at least make it miserable! That's why you pass on a deduction that just waves a red flag at them.

I have the additional burden that in my business getting ensnared by them could cost me my securities license.

Their power hasn't changed in 40 plus years that i've been sending them returns. So they haven't got too big and powerful under Obama. They've always been too big and powerful.

Live in fear of the IRS? No way! That's why you pay all your taxes. Cutting corners isn't worth the lost sleep.

Anyone who thinks IRS plays by the rules and laws are sadly mistaken, they make up their own interpretation of the laws and rules.

After being audited 3 times I know and I was not cheating. First time IRS auditor told me " We (IRS) misinterpreted the law and I owed 12k in back taxes even though I followed their advice on how to file while drawing per diem...

Yes the president can indeed influence what they do and how they do it.....

TH, if you knew how the IRS worked you most likely wouldn't have been audited at all. Knowing how the IRS works is knowing the red flags and avoiding them. As a businessman I have a tax return that is an inch thick as it is. But still, i pay some people to make sure it's all done right. Guarantee? No, but I'm not gonna get rung up on something stupid.

AS an example a few years ago one of my big biz expenses went up by almost 50%. it was all part of a prospecting campaign to take advantage of the oversold bond market. From a biz POV hitting it while the iron was hot. Get the word out! THis campaign greatly increased my marketing costs. No problem, just write it off. Ah, but not so quick Mr Know it all Biz guy! According my accountant, who i've worked with for almost 20 years, increasing that expense by that amount was like screaming at the IRS "Look at me!" I didn't get it! I still don't get it! But according to my guy the big increase was the problem. So he gave me a choice, keep the write off and suffer through a major audit expecting them to go back many years or drop it and move on. We moved on. I left a legit deduction on the table. So it goes in IRS problem avoidance!

People roll the dice with the IRS without realizing it. Just because you can back up a deduction doesn't mean you should take it.

Native, you do not know what your talking so don't tell me I don't know how the IRS works, I did not just fall off the turnip truck...

I have been using a CPA since 1983, I know all about flags, I also know the IRS is crooked and any President can use them as a weapon if they wish to just as this one did...

I believe obama could nuke one of our cities and you would still defend him...

See that is the difference, when it became clear Nixon was guilty of obstruction of justice and cover up I stop supporting him and starting calling for his impeachment, I did not blindly continue to support him...

Scary book, scary movie. I thought Henry Fonda was really good in that one. ( before we go there I don't like Jane either!)

On the IRS - I agree with everthing you dsiad except the last line about the prez. Could that happen? Sure! Did it happen? Let's have an investigation first.

IF Obama did anything wrong I'm all for impeachment. But lets find out if he did anything wrong first. Regardless of what Ann Coulter says, Innocent until proven guilty is what seperates this country from large segments of the world.

GMD this is a good post! Let me tell you where i stand - Let's get the facts before we make any judgements. it is that simple. We don't have the facts. let's get all the facts, then make a judgment. Investigation, then trial, then verdict. in that order.

I don't take anyone here as a bumpkin. However, almost all here have passed judgement. There is a rush to judgement. it is based upon the extreme and passionate dislike of the current administration. it is that rush to judgement that i'm against.


As for my clients. Working hard doesn't have a political party. My clients range from one end of the political spectrum to the other. All believe in this country as passionately as the next.

So, we are to believe an administration investigating itself? Hmm...doesn't seem like a fair and honest approach now does it?

Not only did I see movies (both old and new version) and read the book, but I lived it as well, my job in the Air Force was part of Fail Safe program, when I left service theyw ere still oerating under it and the MAD theory........

Administration conducting its on investigation is like a criminal being charged with murder then telling the judge, no need for trail, that he investigated his self and found there was no basis for the charges....

We need a special prosecutor completely independent of current administration to do the investigation. The inspector general found the attorney general free of any involvement in fast and furious... I will not believe a word from the IG, AG, or anyone else appointed by the adminstration.....

When you are done paying taxes, the IRS has no further need of you. Your SS could go to professional baby mamas who vote often, maybe more often than we know........

However, it leads where it leads. That is, all guilty parties are prosecuted. Regardless of how high it goes. And, if not guilty it is accepted as well.

My mother is 88, and she still works and pays taxes. She retired a career RN, but retirement wasn't for her - she wants an active life.

So, she's been paying taxes and SSN for at least 70 years.

And Medicare is already denying her treatments. She had major surgery about 3 years ago. A blocked artery to her lower intestines, so a section of those intestines died and had to be removed. So, major abdominal surgery, at 85 - and they limited her hospital stay to 3 days = 2 days after the surgery, said she could go in a nursing home but it would have to be permanent. Mom isn't laying down for anyone, so she finished healing at home. They'd rather she died, but she went back to work paying taxes again....

My family is very long lived, one went to 106, but typically late 90's.

With healthcare now limiting that it is not likely she will go that far now.
