And then the state OR Spain takes what you found.

Back to square one. heh

There are probably ways to avoid that. Unless you are hanging around a known wreck. If you found an unknown wreck you might be in business as long as you didn't appear to be treasure seekers. Disguising your intentions would probably be the easy part.
Don't know anything about that stuff, but I bet there is buying and selling of things under the table down there.

There are also these places that REALLY suck bad... they are really noisy... violent... the food sucks even worse... and you cannot choose anything else to do or what you want to eat.

OH AND... you meet lots of those "under the table guys"

Not sure if you are familiar with them in your part of the woods... or how they compare...

For the ones here really take the cake...

Here its simply called "jail".

Heh.

ARC,

I've always felt that modern tv has gone to the dogs and you've just proved it....:laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:

Yeah the other day I saw one of them with the remote control ... just flippin and flippin...

He could not find anything worth watching either.

Been bitatchin about too many commercials on Animal Planet too.

Nice find, Bart! I was looking at this site and wondered if you have been able to search those areas where survivors got ashore. Maybe your medal came from one of them or a Spanish salvage diver?
Forgot the link :p
1733 Spanish Galleon Trail - Fleet of 1733

That's what I hunt......the salvage and survivor camps. Almost everyone before me has focused off shore at the wreck sites. This fleet was the most successful spanish salvage operation that ever took place. More treasure was salvaged than was listed as being shipped. 12 million + pesos came ashore here in the keys. I have focused most of my attention on these camps....info is vague on these camp locations I have found an additional 4 locations that are not generally known or written about. I'm searching for 2 others and have a good idea as to where they are. The legendary chuck "shaggy cannon" Mitchell showed me this site and had found well over 200 coins here with many other artifacts. I have years of hunting to do exploring these spots. The main salvage camp is well known to locals and I've never once seen a soul there. I have only done a brief search for surface finds. I will hunt this spot harder in the fall when its cooler. I now carry the torch of discovery with more on the ground knowledge than was ever published on the salvage camp sites. A big help for me was tracking down the old springs and watering holes.....most of the spanish camps were close to these water holes. One must remember that the Spaniards always tried to hide, smuggle, cheat or steal there way to the top. Any thing is possible when you find the coins....bigtime treasures could be a mere foot away and golden objects of retirement value have been found....just not by me....YET !! The story tells it all....12 million pesos were brought to the shore for shipment back to havana, and then spain. Common sense says that some was lost, spilled, buried, and stolen. I'm putting myself in the only spots where I can legally recover what's there.....high tide to low tide shoreline and shallow water where allowed. And yes there are plenty of people who want to buy these artifacts all over the world not just south Florida. Oh ya getting permissions for my next big dig has literally taken years.....I now have all three permissions for what I'm sure will be the best of these camps.....the capitana "el rubi segundo" was offloaded at this camp. Many gold objects and lots of minted and worked silver. Hopefully some will be left around. 4 different unrelated significant finds in a quater mile stretch. Over a ten year period I tracked down and got the story of each find from each person. None of them new of the others finds !! All found at different locations within a quarter mile of each other.

Off to see the lizard.

Night crew.

I just secured a trade with a friend. Soon, I'll be the proud owner of a 1 1/2 in. canister ball from a 12 lb. cannon, a bullet from Gaines Mill, and a 2 in. Grapeshot from a coastal style heavy artillery cannon from Vicksburg. Lifes good in the tradin' business.8-)

Holding it in my hand staring off into the grey windy skies......I wondered the same thing !! What was the fate of the owner ?? I call it the trail of tears (like the nez perce). After three days with no water.....you drop your gold and think of nothing else. These poor survivors would have been eaten alive by mosquitoes, scalped by indians, eaten by sharks, and broiled in the sun. They would have slowly made there way to these known watering holes for survival !!

I just tried that stuff for the first time tonight bill.....it was different.....not sure if I like it or not. I'll give it another try !!
