good morning all

Morning there GB.

Morning guys.

Fyi, living 40 minutes away from the closest town, isn't very good when it comes to pickin' up chicks If you know what I'm talking about. :laughing7:

On the flip side, it means that I'm in charge of the vehicle, and can take it where I want. Mostly. I spotted a nice creek/gully in he old part of town that I didn't know about at first, and I saw some glass in there as we drove past. That's spot number one.

Being a huge fan of Live PD and Cops, (I've been watching Cops since I was ten), I've been very observant of what to do, and not to do. Permit, proof of insurance, and registration within easy reach, tag lights, brake lights, and headlights are operational, etc. etc. blah blah blah.

RR
Glad you have all the parts of your vehicle in good working order. I'm Purdy sure the police don't take "likes" to get you out and going again.:laughing7:

Took my first test drive today - on the highway. :laughing7:

I actually did pretty good, minded my speed, watched other vehicles, minded my signals and lanes. There was one rough spot in my trip when I went to take my first curve, and almost ended up rolling into Greenup county... Other than that, A-OK.

Found this half of a Saturday night special many years ago.

Found this half of a Saturday night special many years ago.

I'm picking nits, but that's not a Saturday Night Special. The technical nomenclature for a cheap revolver with bad timing of the cylinder is "Suicide Special". Notable examples of the "S.S." were produced by the German firm R.G..

The term Saturday Night Special was coined by a particular law enforcement officer in the seventies, by a man whose name I will not speak. The exact term was used in reference to the Raven MP-25 pistol which was designed and manufactured as a direct consequence of the 1968 Gun Control Act.-

Federal legislation- "You can no longer import a small fixed sight semi-automatic pistol such as the Sterling or Baby Browning .25ACP pistols or the Walther PK series pistols for resale."

Raven pistol designer George Jennings- "$&@# You. I will build them here".

Zamac may have been underrated. Many samples exist that still function well.
Mostly , "cheap" imports were biased against as they were affordable.
A Beretta Jetfire was an example of a decent (and popular) pistol that the act stopped import of.
Small framed pistol import was banned based on "no sporting purpose".
So , Jetfire's were manufactured in the U.S. in starting in 1969 in reply....

I gots me a Jimenez J.A. .22 pistol. Jimenez is a former Jennings employee who bought out the tooling from Jennings/Bryco Firearms after they were sued out of existence in a lawsuit that found the pistol to be "dangerous". :dontknow:

It's exactly the same as the Zamac (zinc, magnesium, aluminum, copper alloy) pistol Jennings produced. My J.A.-22 is surprisingly accurate, completely functional, goes "Bang!" most of the time I pull the trigger, is always loaded, and it is in my pocket. The gun is NOT dangerous.

I'm dangerous... :laughing7:

Agree to disagree Duckshot. The Jennings 22 pistol IS dangerous and there are countless stories of them Like anything else, there may be a few good ones out there and "Lucky" for you , you have one. I would never recommend one to a friend ???

You are entitled to your opinion Simon1, as I am to mine.

In my opinion, most of the negative opinions of Saturday Night Specials is formed because people are misinformed as to how they can be effective. Notice I said "can", not "are".

The fact is the USA was brought into existence by dangerous Men. Here is a well done video on how you too can be dangerous-

Are they "good guns"?

No. But as a good friend of mine once said, "They are good enough to get a good gun, if necessary".

Just to disagree respectfully , this owner put more rounds through one than most folks will.
I'm not saying it's all true. Or false...

[Here is a picture of my Jimenez Arms JA22 with currently 10,700 rounds through it. To dispell some rumors, this gun has:

1) NOT blown up in my hand, despite using high and hyper velocity ammo (CCI Mini-Mags and Stingers)

2) NOT cracked a slide or broken a firing pin

3) NOTbeen a Jam-a-matic

With 10K plus rounds, I am comfortable enough to shoot a tin can reliably around a field at 15 plus yards. I, for one, find that affording to practice is great insurance. Hitting the target the first time with a 22LR is better than missing with a .45.]

That was a nice video Duckshot. I have a NAA 22 that I carry strapped to my ankle as a back up. Some "Mouse" guns can be useful as well as reliable. You have your opinion and I am not trying to change it, as I stated, I would NOT recommend a "Jennings" 22 to a "Friend" (My opinion).

As you have noted : "they were sued out of existence in a lawsuit that found the pistol to be "dangerous". :dontknow:"

That is definitely a lot of rounds RC. Glad you have had no problems. Maybe I am a little paranoid then :icon_scratch: Before I buy a new or used firearm I read as many reviews on the caliber and brand I am interested in. Reading about them blowing up in your hand does discourage me.
Again, I am glad BOTH of you had no problems. :notworthy: I am just concerned when I read all the bad reviews.

I run an N.A.A. 1 1/8 in .22 lr..
Test on fresh deer skull was confirmation that it is better as a nasal spray/get off me gun application. At around 10-12 inches inches, about one in three solid roundnose rounds penetrated top of skull. With one round mushroomed in place at a pedicle edge.

Fits in the watch pocket real well though.

You spelled "dangerous" wrong, IMO.

That lawsuit claimed that the gun was unsafe because some kid got killed when a n-e-g-l-i-g-e-n-t Jennings .380 user did not realize that his firearm was still cocked and loaded after removing the magazine. The sole difference between a J-22 and a J.A.-22 is a two cent piece of orange plastic attached to the rear of the striker so that the user can visually see if the firearm is cocked or uncocked. IMO the judges decision was erroneous.

But in all honesty, I don't think I would "recommend" any particular firearm to any particular person.

Sorry Simon. That was not me running that number of rounds ,or that pistol.
I quoted someone on another forum.

A Ruger Mark 3 target 22/45 is my pet semi-auto .22. The thing shoots where it's pointed , and points naturally , for me anyways.

Recently inherited Dads old Ruger Standard that looks to need a good cleaning. Been a long time since I shot it...

I owned the Walther PK 380. POS.Sold it to my best buddy.:laughing7: we’re still friends except at the range.:laughing9:
