So I've really been thinking about this tarnished gold.....it really has to be down in the muck and undisturbed for many years. Yesterday I was working underwater around a trashy area.....the sand is black and stained around the remains of a motorcycle buried in the sand here. This ring popped out from a fairly deep hole (10 inches). I immediately thought it was silver and put it on my pinky and continued to hunt......looking at it every so often I could see some gold tone here and there, and I started to think it could be a rare stained gold. I got a big imperial topaz ring here that was stained badly last year. I'm glad I took some pics of this patina, because I rarely see it. It kind of black at first but after exposure to the air it starts to give off a rainbow type patina....good examples of this can be seen on some of the ss central America's gold coins. I don't think carat quality matters, and this one has a very worn 750 mark so it's 18k. Here's a pick of the staining on the inside hollow area of the ring showing the staining.....the smallest amount of baking soda removes the staining quickly.

Mornin all.

Shoved snow for a start to the day. (Ater coffee of course).
Freezing rain sleet and snow coming. Some sleet now.
We're on an imaginary line as far as how much freezing rain.

Won't be as bad a 1922on the 21-22nd though. No , I wasn't around then.
Have a picture somewhere of snow at incredible depth and relatives with an old car that might have been North of the iced area where more snow fell instead.
