Did you know that the heart as a symbol is suggestive of the most attractive parts of the human body and not the organ inside?

All Valentine's Day means to me is a half-price sale tomorrow on cheap chocolates in sexually suggestive boxes...

Man! I been wanting to get that off my chest for a long, long time. This calls for a belt of wobbly sauce!

Pour a round for the ladies first, of course! :laughing7:

Oh those venders out there offering up the $60+ for a dozen roses & those chocolate venders are crying this year.

yes, roses in the dead of winter..

In the 6th-5th century BC, heart shape was used to represent the heart-shaped fruit of the plant Silphium, a plant used as a contraceptive.

Oh the days are gone where folks used really send out the cards.
My Mother gave me this scrap book of 35 double sided pages filled with the cards I received when I was just a young lad.
This one was one if the firsts.

That would make a really great name for a small boat- "Silphium", I like it!

Edit-DANGNAB IT! There is already a class of sailing skiff called "Laser".

First sentence- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silphium

Another dream of mine shot to hell....

...that's just how Valentine's Day goes, I guess. :dontknow:

Dug a few from the 17C in England, and a couple over on this side of the pond.

Good morning and Happy Valentines Day!

Since de Cap’n has broke out de rum for dis special occasion, I shall propose a toast.

To all ye scallywags and succubusseses,

Ye be me hearties aboard dis ship,
Seeking and finding all types of treasure.
And so, de Captain’s bottle of rum we tip,
For knowing you, it be a pleasure!

GMorn everbody, my smart machine says it’s 10 below now, the high were look forward to is 0 with tonight make 25 below. 2-3 more inches of snow, right at a foot deep. I’m making stuffed peppers, meatloaf mix and couple different layers of cheddar. I put in pyro measure glass cups and than and on a cookie sheet. They will run over. I’m going to bake stuff all day just for the heat and help my best girl rearranging my furniture, It sure beats cold and lonesome.

We're having some salmon steaks and doing a roasted red pepper casserole with feta cheese, olives, etc....on the side.

Maybe splurge and get a fancy dessert during our errands today.

I'm curious, does anyone have a special Valentine's meal planned for tonight? :icon_scratch:
All of the eat-in restaurants are still closed here due to the Covid imposed shut-downs, so I'm making a special meal for my wife and daughter tonight.

I'm making hand-breaded, gluten and dairy-free tilapia, wild brown rice with brussel sprouts and rainbow sorbet for dessert.

Hope everyone has a great Valentines Day,
Dave

Mornin all!

I've been instructed to clean the snow and ice off the outdoor grill for beef tenderloin today.
No one stole my snow shovels...So I'll make it to the grill , eventually.
I did shovel off about a foot of snow from it the other day to get started on cleaning it off.

Who knows what the company you are courting has in mind.
Seems someone had an idea of a Canadian employee besides the Canadian....
Despite the learning they require to understand the logistics of benefits , it could lead to more Canadian employees, input, and perhaps distribution.
I've no idea of the company's plans though or if they are looking to be more of a presence in Canada. If they are looking for a better presence and understanding of the logistics there , I'm confident you're thier man.

A good international business does not get tangled up at/on borders. And when traveling in strange parts , it's hard to beat a local guide that understands the locales etiquette.. Even well beyond just knowing the law.
But they know that , I'll wager...(The usual nickle.)

30 years ago now at least I went and did the roses/chocolates thing.....The Mrs said "Oh don't waste your money on this things-if you can't love me for the 364 other days-then don't be doing it for the one over commercialized day"
OK-GOT IT! :headbang:
Been practising it ever since-

Oh a buddy contractor gets a knot up you know what every year at this time-card/roses/chocolates.......(I think he whines about his Mrs the other 364) :laughing7:
Nope if you can't do it on the regular-what's the sense of buying it one day of the year really?

This statement has been brought to you all by a cold hearted Finn..........

Ahh you got a waiver!
"Hallmark" holidays are fraught with danger for many of us.
There's a birthday right behind this one I'm not prepared for too...

I 4 wheel drived through some interesting conditions yesterday for cards (the dogs give cards on holidays too , oh yes) a flower , some chocolates , and chocolate dipped cheese cake cones.

No where to hide here in winter without a barn or garage.
As one former explorer mentioned about the risk of being too generous with gifts/beads... (at risk of my misquoting)"Better than to chance a flight of arrows during the night."

Blatz! Really?!? Blatz?!? Eckhh!

No, that is not all I got out of that. LOL.

History has been taken out of the curriculum across the country, so I have been told by an exhistory teacher and my little cuz who went through college to be a history teacher only to find out that no schools were hiring. It’s sad.

Agreed Milady.

If someone had taken my class out to an old farm and let us find some artifacts from the lessons we read about in our history books. I might have become an historian.

The schools have an *EXCELLENT* tool for causing interest in history and they refuse to use it! :metaldetector:

Got to love dogs, Max wanted out 12:45am. Licking his lips pacing the floor. Ok buddy let me get dressed -20c windchill though its only -14C. Still from the comforts of a warm bed to the outside, well one has to love the dog.
30 minutes of him trying to figure out what direction he wanted to place his deposit behind what tree it was a "OK Let's Play" Let's just get back inside.
Dog snoring contently, and I'm still awake.
Why do men love their dogs... :laughing7:

Cuz.....that's how the dogs train us to feel. :tongue3:

Seen a man one say his had just past, oh I was so sorry to hear about the passing. He kept a stiff upper lip, no problem and carried on with his unloading and weigh up.
Same guy was in another time and I asked him how it was going?
Oh his chin crinkled up, started quivering, tears started flowing, and shock out a "My dog just died"

I hear you Whadi, unfortunately in today’s age of being able to find people via technology we all seem to be at risk of identity theft.

Oh, don't misunderstand. Trying to know whom it is one is trying to hire is necessary. (Since one's word became worthless)

I understand all that, and more. I was referring to how the whole commercial world is *STRENUOUSLY* pushing how people can make their *CREDIT* worthiness stronger and stronger! Why? Because if the identity is stolen and the person has poor credit....its useless....to them!

The desire is to have the highest, most sparkling credit score! Why? So the person can qualify for more and more expensive things AND can buy them!! On money They *DO NOT HAVE*! Hence....become a *slave*.

On top of that? The identity theft business has better and better prospects!!! Theif cashes in and the victim is left to clean up the mess. Proving they shouldn't *have* to start over, rebuilding their credit worthiness they'd already proved once.

So background checks? Necessary. But many take them *too* damned far.

I was once told that because I didn't have a particular certification paper they were resistant to hiring me. I told them, "If....this company is more interested in a piece of paper stating I can do what I say. Then, my taking you to the console and actually demonstrating what I can do, right now. Then, I am less interested in working for a company that holds such beliefs."

They called my perceived bluff....I demonstrated what their current M.I.S. *didn't* know. I got the job.

Unrealistic? What would Marion Robert Morrison say?

Yup.
I rest my case.

The whole .25% interest rates that we have at the moment is going to just put folks into this unrealistic burden of repayment once the rates go up.
Will they go up? Just have a peek at the debt/earning ratio here it's now $1.80/$1.00 earned average.
So now have a peek at the national debt and it's a scary. Imagine if the rates were like they were in the early 80's.

The debt trap-buy-put the amortization over a long period of time. The national average for US auto loan interest rates is 5.27% on 60 month loans. Oh that new car smell.:tongue3:
Homes today even the rural are selling for $100K over the asking-these are the fixer up ones. The assessments are now going to double on homes-which increase the $$$ for the coffers of the for the spending. The mill rate might stay the same but the value of the home has increased to the point where one is saddled with a unrealistic debt to live under a roof.

The assessment of farm lands has doubled in the past couple of years-why-because the Western Ontario farmers are buying the properties in the Eastern region-so double the value.

Yes the debt trap of life-25-30 yrs to own the roof over the head-remortgaging every 1/2/5 yrs spreading it out, paying double for the roof.

I don't get why folks do this-to buy more-and in actual reality they have less because they've put everything up for collateral to buy more.

Buy a home-get a mortgage-oh whooppee the branch makes $150.00 but that's not what they are after. It's the credit card, banking fees, line of credit, the auto loan. the insurance, the cash, the piddly retirement investment plan.
oh the retirement plan, put away for the rainy day-earning a pittance-while paying off the loans. Oh that makes for a great financial plan-for the loaner.

Oh I have had the debt and the lowest on was 5 yrs-no matter what I bought in life and when. If I didn't see it clear in 5-forget about it as it was living out of my means. Sorry bank/credit card companies I'm your worse customer, as I don't like your numbers, but I do like using you.

Banking fees-what a game that play-turn it around on them-have the minimum balance where they reverse the fees every month. It's making more money on that $$$ than any investment today-by just sitting there doing squat.
