It doesn't surprise me that the arkies missed it. 90% of qualified finds in the UK are found by detectorists which explains the frictions between arkies and detectorists.
They use the excuse we're amateurs and don't use the proper protocol and methodology to document the finds, etc...
I've come to realize that's mostly pure b.s. we're considered unpaid competition and a threat to their jobs.
Most sites we detect have been disturbed over and over again such as plowed fields, urban green spaces, etc....so the whole strata or depth of the find is irrelevant which is a big part of their argument. My urban green spaces have more fill than a garbage disposal site....

Well I got a new coffee machine a new version of the old, great feature is that the beeper can be silenced.
Now the only thing I have to complain about is the "BOLD" button doesn't work!

For some it's an easy for the return for us it's just about a 2 hr drive return trip.
I just want to taste my coffee in the morning-not some riggings from the dish rag been dipped in the water.
