"Boss" is overrated. I've known too many "bosses" who had to prove, to themselves, that *they* were the *BOSS*!
Everybody else knew they were. :dontknow:

Meh, point taken.

I'm a carpenter, a skilled tradesman. Tell what you want done and I'll do it. Tell me how you want it done and I'll milk you for double the money. No matter if you are "boss" or customer. : )

Rook,

Been there done that....kind of felt like a dinosaur at the tail end of my career. Luckily there were some of the younger crowd who appreciated my expertize.

Still it was time to pass the torch and move on.

The last one I had, told me I'd forgotten more than anyone else in the company ever knew about the system. I've taught everyone from neophytes to presidents of companies. But as I was getting near the end...the last job came to me and said thanks but we won't be needing your services anymore.

My reply? *GOOD* !!!

I was never so tired of figuring out things as I was at that time! I said, now I can go detecting!

Of course....they had no clue what I was talking about and I didn't bother to explain. They asked if I'd need much time to clear out my desk. I told them I had cleaned it out 2 months prior. I shook hands and left on the spot.

I got as far as the parking lot before one of them came running and asked me about a problem they just realized. I told them. Sorry, but I don't work here. :angel12:

Good morning Tnet

I know what your talking about there bill. A few of my young competitors would come up to me and say, are you the Barnes guy. I would tell yes. They’d would say we sure are glad you’re retiring. Now maybe we can get some business out of this company. That was funny. I remember one young competitor bought my lunch on one accasion. That was fun. It was not that I was that great a salesman but that I was consistent in my travel and call schedule.

Morning.

Morning Rook.

Good morning ARC & rook.

Morning Anti.

Good morning Rook, ARC, Dave

Morning ARC & Jim.

Yesterday, I was contacted by a guy who had lost a ring on Sunday at a horse-riding event.
I'm meeting him there at 8am this morning to see if I can find it.

I always welcome these opportunities, mainly because it's on private property and you never know what else might pop up.

Best of luck on your quest Dave, hope that ring get under the coil.

I always feel great about finding and returning a ring/or finding just a survey stake. Both can be just elusive it seems in locating them at times.
Then again I don't enjoy the feeling of not finding the piece of jewelry either. I have that nagging sense of the owner might be thinking did he pocket it on me when said I couldn't find it.

Jim, I spoke with the guy on the phone about exactly where he "thought he might have lost it". :icon_scratch:

He basically wants me to detect behind him as he retraces his footsteps from the parking lot to the spot where he sat.
He said, "it was cool outside on Sunday afternoon and the ring must've slipped off his finger."

I explained to him, "these pieces are often lost in a spot they forgot that they visited, like in the outdoor port-a-potty". :laughing7:
I'm meeting him at a gas station around the corner from the farm, as he has to take me onto the site.

I'll let you all know if I find it.

PS. I haven't dove into a Johnny-on-the-Spot for years, the last time I did, it was assist a very attractive young lady retrieve her house keys. :tongue3:
