THE Random Chat Thread - AKA "The RCT" - No shirt or shoes required - Open 24 / 7

I have numerous bottles and knick-knacks to sell again. I might renew my charter membership again to sell some stuff.

Well I'm bummed out this evening.
The fox took my Mr.Chatelaine.
At 6 weeks old the wife named her, because of her stride.
Then it turned out to be a he :dontknow:

Now this is the only thing remaining, so I tucked it up in the trim along the headliner of the truck.

R.I.P Mr. Chatelaine.

Jim,

Sorry to hear about the loss. The organic farming crowd use chicken tractors for shelter from the sun and they can hide underneath from hawks,etc....

Dang it P.J.!

Heard a single "yap" down the road last night well after dark.
Renters with chickens there........Well they obviously have either not had chickens before ,or treat chickens strangely.

Last week there was a pile of feathers in their yard.
Today (I don't know what happened there last night but) the coop (looks like a 4x4 box more than a coop) was closed up and no birds outside. No wire run or anything. Crap , I don't go study it but didn't note a window even. It's usually been open in the mornings.

Thing is , the property has been a fox thoroughfare for multiple generations of fox. And that's just for starters for predators , coons, dogs, bobcats, coyotes, owls, hawks, bear now and then. Maybe more...

Birds were out around 6:00 p.m.on my way by. Someone must have come home.
Won't blame them chickens if they don't go in the hotbox tonight. But they probably would be safer. Maybe?

A vixen used a den across a nearby road for years. Multiple folks watched each year as the kits started hanging out above ground then eventually trying to follow their folks.
She got roadhit about the time the pups were trying to follow the adults when they headed out in the evening.
I dragged a roadhit deer out back in the woods...Hmm , about a quarter mile or more from the den site. Not really for the fox by design , but the deer was by my mailbox...With no stamps or a postmark on it.

The male/father "yapped" one night to call the young to join him on it.
They worked it for days. Not sure if they got to finish it before coyotes got wind of it (or them) or not.
A hard world out there sometimes.

Last night I was calling my cat named Penelope, I went out side and saw a big doe with 2 fawns with white spots. I stood there watching them, and all 3 of them started walking towards me, and got 10 feet away and stopped! I yelled "BOO" and they took off running 20 yards away and ran off up the hill.

Hello, William. :hello:

Good to scare 'em. Don't want them trusting humans.

Good morning ARC & Jim... sorry to hear about Mr (formerly Ms) Chatelaine Jim! :sadsmiley:
