the priest map or witch map

It's just an artists interpretation of the treasure stories of the day. Nothing more, how could you take it as any thing else.

I only answered to a question . Everybody is free to interpret the painting like he \she wants . I believe how only those who know can answer to SH question . The second picture proves that .

Ok Wayne . I don't know if is good to reveal this info in this time frame , but exist something that would direct you to the place . Is a landmark in a DeGrazia treasure painting . This landmark is painted bigger than in the reality ( like many other important landmarks in another maps ) and could be recognized from an opposite angle that is in the painting .
At the right of this landmark , on the mountainside , begins that path .

Interesting drawing Marius, thanks for sharing.

I do have a question. Considering the depictions, this is a departure from what (I thought) was your primary area of interest. Do you now follow a different trail, so to speak? If so we have more in common on that front than I thought.

A different trail up there or in general ( metaphorically ) ?

A different trail...... as in not in close proximity to Charlebois or Palomino mt.?

Joe and I, along with a couple of others on this site had an interesting discussion about this "map"..... one of De Grazia's "midnight" works.... a few years ago.
There is some history involved with that sketch that very few are familiar with, and a newspaper article about a search conducted by the artist and a few of his native and Mexican friends.

Another midnight sketch with a Jesuit theme.....

And a different view - same theme.

and.....this one......notice range in the background. Seen that somewhere before??? Naysayers don't attack the messenger. :laughing7:

And.....for a fun exercise turn this one upside down........

I believe this sketch is from what he had heard about the trail . The region is wrong but the orientation ( not literally ) is correct . And as I wrote , the mules can reach only at the beginning of the path .
I believe the first painting is a cold reproduction of a map . If Ted knew about that specific landmark maybe he would find the treasure .
Now , about the article from the second link . The reporter wrote how with Ted in that expedition were very skilled prospectors , who could "smell the gold " .
But there is nothing to prospect for now and in Ted era . The treasure and mines owners , managed to dig below the heart region in the canyon and before the last water fall at the canyon mouth , a conic gulch of about 30 feet in diameter and 30 feet deep , which is catching all the heavy minerals that are washed in that canyon .
And below the LDM, in the canyon bed , they dug in stone a trench of few hundred feet long which is catching all the heavy minerals that are washed from the mountain side .
Now , who prospector could " smell " the gold ?

1st.......not really. I see neither Jesuits or loaded pack animals in your example.

2nd.....a painting of the " Kino Mission " at his " Gallery in the Sun " complex. The background of which can be seen in a number of photos on this site.

more here, for those who are interested.......

Wayne, sometimes it not the final product the brush produces that's important. Its what holds and stimulates the mind behind the brush. Those thoughts make their way to the canvas. De Vince and Angelo were no different. Its the subtleties that tell the tale.

Some may wish to ignore the symbolism, that's cool. I prefer not to, but rather to pigeon hole them as pieces to the puzzle. These are more than coincidental. No?

hmmmmmm........a man that wore two hats and carried before him, as a shield and a weapon, a cross. Not a small cross, although he wears many, but a cross the length of his arm from shoulder to wrist. Now where have we seen that before??? But you all forget about that......nah.....nothing here to see. Just move on and forget I mentioned anything, LOL.

Funny, DeGrazia could see what I can in natures abstracts. One of his galleries in Tucson was just down the road from where I lived for 18 years of my life. My wife and I used to go in there all the time checking out his work. His Abstract paintings and drawings were much more complex than they looked, he was a brilliant artist. He had a keen eye for seeing and painting the unseen. I love all his work and have many of his prints in my house.

He understood Abstract Treasure Hunting or "Abstracting".

A lot of his paintings are similar to the shadow horses and plain almost cartoon like simplicity of the artists that created them.

You guys are way late to the DeGrazia party. I brought him into the discussion years ago. Everyone just laughed at me.:BangHead:

Matter of fact, I have one of his books inscribed to "The LaFrance Family".

Good luck,

Joe Ribaudo

Hard to tell Joe,

Kindred spirits, one in the same, or; inspired by the same master. ??? Just hard to tell.

But; there are messages. In the last example I posted there is a literal key. That speaks very loud. To those that are willing to listen.

Lynda

When it comes to trail markers, I tend to go with those made by human hands rather than Mother Nature:

But then, what do I know?:dontknow:

Good luck,

Joe
