Me and Goio were attacked today by a theif trying to rob us!!!!

We went to our normal hunting spot in a Chicago public park like any other day. Everything was cool.
I found a 1920 Merc, that is the end of my 71 day silver coin drought so I was happy.

I was detecting when I saw Goio saying something to me. I took off my headphones,
when I saw a young guy maybe 16 - 20 years old throw a bottle at him. It missed him, but not by much.
The guy was like 15 feet away from us. I guess Goio was diging a plug when the first bottle came sailing
right passed his head. Everytime he threw a bottle he tried to rush up on us. He prolly thought we would
drop our detectors and he could run up and grab it. Well he got really close like 10 feet from me and whipped
another bottle at me, I saw it coming right for my head so I blocked it with my forearm. Just as before he tried
to rush me. This time I raised my shovel up and said "I'm gonna cut your %$&*@# head off!!!" well he took 1
step forward then ran off. He had another buddy off like 100 feet or so. Prolly ready to call his boys if anything
happened to him.

I wish I could of got my hands on him, I would of messed him up good. But my luck, he prolly is underage and I
would go to jail!!! He was whipping those bottels hard like he played baseball or some thing. The bottle that hit me
didn't blowup on impact, it bounced off. But now I have a big lump on my forearm, but that better than a broken
nose!!!! God I hate thiefs. The thing that bothers me most is that he tried to smash a bottle on Goios head when
he wasn't expecting it. Coward!!!! I atleast knew that a bottle was coming at me.

Oh yea, we still have all of our gear - he got nothing from us.

What does one carry legally, if they can't get a CCW?

laws very state to state for example

Some consider different sizes in a knife a concealed weapon while others do not you have to check your state to know for sure, Mace is legal in most states but not all states.

I am sorry you had to endure this sort of treatment from anyone. With the economy in sad shape and the uncaring attitude of some people, I am afraid this sort of thing is going to increase. I am a CCW permit holder and I always carry something with me, abide by your local laws. But always protect yourself and family from Whack-jobs like this! P.s. nice silver!

Glad you're OK. But there is something to be said for the ambush tactic, if
you grabbed him the little punk would have probably started crying. Leave one
thug tied to a tree with both arms broken & a 'thief' sign pinned to his chest .

In Chicago I do not believe it is legal to carry a hand gun?? Dunno maybe I'm wrong.... In good 'ol VA heres my formula.....They couldn't teach this in Algebra...

Minelab + smartcarry + CCW License + Glock 27 +Sweet shovel+ bag o' pull tabs + secret mini crown royal bag of good finds = a super good time MD'ing w/ piece of mind.

I wouldn't have drawn on the chap, but that sweet shovel can cut plugs inches deep into flesh if need be.

Are ASP's leagal in NY, I don't think I can or want to get a gun. I can't imagine taking someones life for a $1000.00 machine and gear. I like the ASP idea, a good beating is all these punks need. I am happy nothing real bad happend to you guys. Sorry about your arm tho. Nice find.

if you can carry P 30 grendal pistol --if you can find one 30 rounds of 22 mag semi auto clip gang banger reducer

if not for a punk that refuses to get close -- get in close back to back no "blind spot" with your bubby call cops if possible (act like you are even if you don't have phones one you ) -- bear spray -- has some range just be sure the winds going his way --- up close sharp digger gator type or lesche use like a blade -- in beach type areas diggers make good weapons

it their choice -- they by attacking a person -- are in effect risking / selling their lives for whatever amount they are trying to rob you for --- shooting robbers helps keep border line folks on the straight and narrow cuz they go dude that $500 bucks ain't worth it -- there a lot of folks willing to risk a beating for say $500 bucks (a weeks pay) but very few willing to risk their life for it . --- without the real fear of being shot lots of LAZY NER DO WELLS WOULDN'T BE WORKING AT FAST FOOD JOINTS

Glad you, your friend, and your equipment are OK. There have been times I've taken out my very intimidating looking digger and displayed it without saying a word when I felt I might be threatened, but thankfully so far no one has made a blatant effort to do me harm.

Anyway, keep going, but be vigilant and safe--don't let the bad guys gain control of the parks.

I highly recommend a CCW. If not, go to a reputable sporting goods store that frequently sell to law enforcement personnel. Purchase a pepper spray that is normally purchased by these L E officers. This stuff really works.
When I first contemplated purchasing a firearm I spoke to an off-duty police officer about the risk in carrying a concealed weapon, as this was before CCW license was available. He told me something I never forgot:
"It is easier for 12 people to forgive you than 6 people carrying you." GET THE PICTURE?

Man, I'm really glad you two are OK! Hearing about stuff like this really

First, I'm glad you and your buddy are safe, and have all your gear..........the bad news is you can't carry concealed in Illinois (for all of you advocating getting a 'gat' and carrying). Heck, I agree with carrying (I do all the time; my 'work' gun, a Glock Model 22 .40 cal.) But since you can't legally carry, and would most certainly get into serious trouble if you did and used it, get some "Freeze+P". It's what I carry at work........more than pepper spray. It takes the fight right out of poeple. I've been sprayed with it and you feel like you're on fire, and someone threw a bucket of gasoline on you. Google it. You can buy it lot's of places.......

i always carry a pepper spray gun with me for just this reason. the gun version will dispense a steady stream of pepper spray up to 18 feet for about 10 seconds. i like it cause an attacker doesn't have to get close in order to use it effectively. I'm glad you both made it out OK.

Thanks everyone for all the advice and concerns, We did not report the incident to the police yesterday cause there where none around! we usually see cops either walking, bike riding or driving around all the time but yesterday was not to be. Weird!! If TF is willing to hunt tomorrow, the plan is to go back to the park, different spot but same park and report the incident to any police officer we meet.
