Got A Rock you Want Identified? Post it here! gimme a good picture or 3 or 4!

I found this yesterday in a plowed field in SW Pennsylvania. I was on my way to check out a section of the field when I got a signal on my metal detector and realized the signal was from this rock. When I picked it up, it was unusually heavy so I figured I better take it home and check it out. I thought it might be a Meteorite, but the thing that concerns me is there are a few voids on the surface indicative a slag, but this doesn't look like any slag I've ever seen and I don't know what it would be doing in rural farmland. It is magnetic. I was told on the Meteorite forum that it could be Basalt. This field also has petrified wood scattered throughout.

Here are pics from all angles.

With tape measure and magnet stuck to it:

I am not sure what this is, but I believe it has gold in it. Turquoise maybe..jadite possibly? I'm just guessing. Thank you in advance.

Three mystery rocks

Hi, I bought these three in Southern California for my 9 year old but forgot to write down names. They are potentially imported from elsewhere since I purchased them at rock shop. We are getting more serious now so want to identify and label and appreciate your help. Two pictures of each. Three total rocks. Thanks!0DC86252-367F-4F27-BE6B-ACFB669911F6.webp52981ED9-F998-4B11-A7CD-FA656E7F80E9.webp3564A8F6-0BB3-47D6-AF18-A78907C71317.webpE8F984A3-1025-49FD-BA81-27DF1BF12AFF.webp6E034E2E-D934-47AE-8BF1-F25E419E9C42.webp085436F8-3E76-452C-8082-52C72363163D.webp

It appears to me like Red Jasper! I've got a lot of it from the Mississippi River from sand & gravel plants that lined the river's edge close to St. Louis ,Misery !:icon_thumleft:

Hello all,

I was out yesterday and came across this. So I dug it up and going back today. Here are some pictures of what I found. They are flakey in a vein between the cracks of quartz. I did not find any substantial gold. I think this may be gold since it is a vein that runs about a foot so far that I have found.

What you show does not seem to be of specimen quality therefore not marketable as is unless there is visible gold....I can't see any in your pictures. If the rocks are in fact gold bearing and the gold is free milling, not minute in size or tied up in pyrites etc., then your best bet is to crush the rocks to powder and pan the gold out.

Good luck

Parts of this rock sets off my diamond tester thru the roof.

Can you tell me what type of rock this could be? Parts of it sends my dt thru the roof. I don't have our best specimens on hand. But they show the true gem quality. They range from clear to yellow/orange and pink to deep purple. Any idea what they may be?20210801_151611.webp20210801_151611.webp

If those specks still look golden in shaded light it is probably gold....gold does not lose its color no matter the lighting unlike any other mineral or element. My guess is the specks turn black or just disappear in the shade.

Good luck.

Looks promising to me. If it were mine I’d crush it and pan, or take a pick and try to scratch or dent the gold bits to see how they behave.

Found meteor? Maybe!?

I have had this for maybe 2 months and I am so excited to get your opinion on it. I actually found it in Indiana in the creek near my mother's house. It caught my eye immediately because I had never seen anything like it before. The fact that it has no rough edges at all and not a single fossil. Oh and the way it feels when you hold it.. it's indescribable. I'm very excited as you can probably tell! I wish it was able to tell me it's story but as that is impossible I'm going you can give me some insight. Thank you!16290461322995938468713416693025.webp16290461322995938468713416693025.webp16290461880705781558494877962471.webp16290462309986427876725298600226.webp

If you think you have gold then check the rocks color in full and shaded light...gold does not change color every other mineral or element does. The pics do not look like gold to me.

I tried the strongest magnet I have on it and it does react though strangely enough it seems to repel it ... Has anyone ever heard of that?
