humm nice ^sample there talc on the outside looks like good color thruout the rock.. the ""Green fiberglass" worries me a little tho that is what certain types of Asbestos looks like View attachment 846194.. If it looks like this Wash your hands and get an air tight box (plastic ) to store it in and read up on it.. as for the rock your posting I am not seeing Asbestos and would love a close up picture if you could do 1 .. looks like you might have gold or pyrite in it (im liking the color)... YAY!! and nice find.

Nice pic of serpentine D. Live in NorCal and that stuff is everywhere up here. Good advice about washing your hands as the asbestiform crystal habit of the 'asbestos' minerals in serpentine can stick to everything when crushed up....so also wash your clothes, shoes, etc when prospecting in and around serpentine outcrops. And if you do go crushing up these types of rocks, also wear a dust mask....

Whats this ?

humm hate to id this one .. dangerous but every one should have some in there collection its chrysotile in serpentinite rock ,, (AKA Asbestos) well washed. Serpentinite is a rock composed of one or more serpentine group minerals. Minerals in this group are formed by serpentinization, a hydration and metamorphic transformation of ultramafic rock from the Earth's mantle. The alteration is particularly important at the sea floor at tectonic plate boundaries.Chrysotile yellow.jpgchrysotilerock.jpg

#1,2,3,5,6,7 yummy, 8/9 is a shist.. mini garnets high mineralization in sedimentary rock!

[

Ill be sending you a bunch if this. I got about 50 lbs 3 5 gal buckets full all have been soaking in the water you told me to do and it seems to be getting the decomposing pyrite off.

Yellow sulfides? Found these chunks on a ridgetop of volcanics. Cant ever get more but was interested what the mustard yellow stuff is. It does not smell of sulphur.

The papers are confirming its chemical makeup of an Obsidian ( volcanic Glass) Biface (been worked on both sides of the rock by a Knapper) from Obsidian cliff Yellowstone. this probably would have been worked into a hatchet or tomahawk, except for the chip Pict #5 on the leading edge. the paperwork is just confirming its closest matches and closest time to when it was formed and probably knapped. Nice piece.. is it a museum piece?

I dont think so ... due to its surface being a conglomerate.. Definately high iron content but i see Quartz and that to me is saying that it is a Volcanic upchuck.. soz m8 but try a couple of Meteor tricks.
1: get a rare earth magnet.. does it slap on to the rock (IE violently head for the rock jumping out of hand and slapping the rock?
2: have the rock cut in a slice on any corner and send me a peek of the composition from inside!

Sulfur doesn't always smell because it bonds with pretty much everything,,lol Category:Sulfur compounds - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Its quite the bonder.. you seem to have Iron sulfide there.. seems to be the best choice in the Quartz that its surrounding also.
