Got A Rock you Want Identified? Post it here! gimme a good picture or 3 or 4!

Nice! ok so its a Sandstone with Quartz inclusion with heavy mineralization.. from sight : Iron, Hematite, Sulphur, Manganeese, molybdenium, silver.
Any chance your gonna SMASH it up? or even better crack it open and send me some close up shots of the Fissures!

Depends if the wife lets me. That one sits in her rock garden. That ok, I know where there is more.

Umm ya BEWARE THE WIFE! LMAO ummm yup ask or deny .... lol !

Pretty rocks Quartz with a high Mica content.. you can ushually "Peel" mica off with a needle in sheets and see right thru it.. ive seen sheets of it as large as car windows...lol the Quartz (pure ) was conglomerated with the mica encrusted quartz probably during an earthquake (millions of years ago) the mineral content is low tho..8( pretty !
THANK YOU!

Found some chunks of granite with 1/4" seams of this green mineral, below a granite outcrop with seams of pink milky quartz. The green mineral has reflective strands that look almost like fiberglass. Found in the sierra nevada at approx 5000' elev

humm nice ^sample there talc on the outside looks like good color thruout the rock.. the ""Green fiberglass" worries me a little tho that is what certain types of Asbestos looks like Asbestos.jpg.. If it looks like this Wash your hands and get an air tight box (plastic ) to store it in and read up on it.. as for the rock your posting I am not seeing Asbestos and would love a close up picture if you could do 1 .. looks like you might have gold or pyrite in it (im liking the color)... YAY!! and nice find.

OK so that's gorgeous! Is it worth crushing... hummm I would say no ..unless you have 50+ pounds of it.. its got Iron Pyrite, and gold in it .. sweet color.. .. but unless you have a whole bunch of it i wouldnt crush it just yet.. get some more and Grind it to a pulp!

Dusted to the rescue ha what do you think. Got this today

a little bland till #4 there are some veins in it ,, some color,, crack it open on one of the veins and take a look.. over all i dont think itll yield mych.. but you never know till you see whats inside!

where or what did you do with SUPER SPARKLEY from your last post?

The rock I busted this piece off of was as big as my pickup truck and it looks like this all the way through. It came from a tailings pile at an abandoned iron mine. I guess I'll be needing a bigger hammer. Thanks

I live near Valley Forge and occasionally find rocks similar in looks to this one, but not nearly as heavy. There is abandoned silver mines nearby and gold has been found in streams (so I'm told). Any opinions are greatly appreciated.
Need help with this one. 3rd picture is a chunk of silvery white metal- I broke it in half with a narrow chisel and hammer

Hallo!

I've collected these rocks from the creek bed on our estate in eastern Kentucky for the last year or so. They come out of a hardened clay bank under some falls in the creek. They really stick out for they're very odd shaped, deep red in color with some orange on some rocks. They've VERY dense and rather heavy for their size and when broken open, the inside usually has crystals in them (notice in the first two photos). I think they're really cool and would love to know what they are. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

SLEDGE and a Grinder!YAY
many old tailings sites have great returns.. they look at it in tonnes, at the old rates 25$ an oz to 300$ an oz back in the day.. its a much better prospect today.

During a Clay Quartz Inversion (at great depth) the quartz is extremely hot and forms into bubbles in the clay, the clay thus being heated acts like a ceramic, some ceramics due to there composition can have a hardness of 10 (very hard steel tungsten carbide is usually a 9). with the differences of the composites in the rock/ceramic it will form geometric and non geometric skins, features, and with time and water these are magnified to make the rocks you have today.

gorgeous! I've even seen some that look like turtles.
