Got A Rock you Want Identified? Post it here! gimme a good picture or 3 or 4!

I have to tell ya Dusted this has been and continues to be my favorite thread, and is very possibly the single most interesting thread I have ever watched on this forum!!

You deserve a huge pat on the back Kudos and keep up the great work :notworthy:

Off topic but I just drove by your area last week (the I-25 on the way down to Sierra Vista AZ, and across the I-40 on my return, from Prescott ), was on the way home from seeing my first grand kid born. :occasion14:

I even managed to take a little time, went in a different way at the claim to do some photo re-con, found some very interesting things (again) but it was monsoon and I had to be very carefull.... I really need to spend a week there some day, and not these annual 1/2 day trips :laughing7:

Awesome thread Dusted! Look forward to it everyday!

get one of those 6 volt lantern batterys (home depot or the such) wire one side to the rock put the other one arround a small trailer light and tuch the lightbulb to the rock the open end ... IE <img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=839894"/>

put your rock in at one of the lightbulb spots you only need it as kind of a resistor in the wiring.. or to complete any length of the wiring to the lightbulb..were just seeing wether it carries a current.. you could also check it with a Ohmmeter if you have one (harbor freight 9.99$ ) and this actually might be cheaper. itll also tell you what the resistance is between a set (measured) spot to spot. Gold will have next to no resistance. meaning your ohms will be very low.. or your lightbulb will light up very well easily.. etc

Bought an ohmmeter today and tested a few things and had readings of 0.4 on steal bolt but nugget had a reading of 0.1

Hi Dusted,

What is your source information for a correlation possible high content of gold in the same area as this Silver? Thanks- Frank

Yeah, rare earth mag sticks like crazy, wouldn't it stick to an iron blob just the same?

Gold is a better conductor than iron, you need to take into consideration what resistance scale you were on and the distance between the probes in this but if it conducts your results sound very positive

pyrite ,, and gold.... grind that bugger down to dust ..pan and etch out the junk! hcl is your friend!

K broke it in half and this is so far I know I need to grind it but I'm the worst panner on planet Arizona hahha. Are those yellow spots everywhere gold ?? I'm kinda lost as to what to look for in pan. Help dusted the newb needs your brainpower hahah.

Hey dustedIMG_0719.jpgIMG_0720.jpg , im a new member but got a little rock i was hoping u could check out...

I live near Valley Forge and occasionally find rocks similar in looks to this one, but not nearly as heavy. There is abandoned silver mines nearby and gold has been found in streams (so I'm told). Any opinions are greatly appreciated.
Need help with this one. 3rd picture is a chunk of silvery white metal- I broke it in half with a narrow chisel and hammer

Hey dustedView attachment 842216View attachment 842217 , im a new member but got a little rock i was hoping u could check out...

NICE chunk.. OK so Quartz, a little mica some gold/Pyrite Hematite in black copper in green.. Very nice specimen good miner alization.. If you want to go further you'll need to go with a complete crushing (till finely ground) then pan it off.. VERY NAICE!

Hi Dusted,

What is your source information for a correlation possible high content of gold in the same area as this Silver? Thanks- Frank

I PM'd you but it basically boils down to the Formation process.. If you have the mineralization in one spot (aka you have Metal sheeting of natural silver, most would kill for that) then you will find Gold "Deeper in the quartz (melting points are much higher and the solidifing points are much lower for silver...)

Bought an ohmmeter today and tested a few things and had readings of 0.4 on steal bolt but nugget had a reading of 0.1

yup...Its not composed right for me... Im thinking you have a granite with a high sulfide content.. not saying there isnt gold in it .. but youll have to crush it FINE fine (micro gold) and treat with either cyannide, murcury, or with Aqua Regia...

Pretty rocks Quartz with a high Mica content.. you can ushually "Peel" mica off with a needle in sheets and see right thru it.. ive seen sheets of it as large as car windows...lol the Quartz (pure ) was conglomerated with the mica encrusted quartz probably during an earthquake (millions of years ago) the mineral content is low tho..8( pretty !

Got one for you. Weighs about 45 lbs.
