Basic signs and symbols you have found

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Here are a couple that were posted by me on another thread.
Note that major monuments were made as landmarks to use when mapping a trail.
They can be seen for many miles away and are many times used only to mark a relevant compasse point or longitude.
These two monuments are made to resemble birds, One is nesting, one is pointing.
It is also nessisary to note that monuments almost NEVER point to treasure.
So enjoy them when you find them and don't worry that you are missing something, or that they are hiding anything. They are land marks ... usually nothing more.

As long as we are talking about signs that fit a text book theme
Monuments need to be covered as well.
Turtles are a trail marker that many people seem to think is a necessary ingredient for a treasure trail.

This is totaly untrue !
But a turtle certainly will get your blood going.
A turtle ALWAYS points to treasure.

Here is a sea turtle that is looking straight up a cliff at a heart shaped hole.
Sorry it isn't a little bigger, I took the picture as I drove by. This monument is about 1/4 mile away.
OD I love the turtle marker !! I may be repeating someones Else's question > if so forgive me as I have been having to read all this posting fast >> my question >>> is there also a snake with his mouth opened that the turtle is looking up at. Were these meant to be two combining markers > heart and serpent ??? I love the thread > truly wonderful and educational  thanks Carolinadigs

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Carolinadigs,

I think the other large hole is shaped like a turtle as well and is pointing to a marker in line with the heart.
I haven't been over to it yet so I can't say for sure.
The thing that has me really courious is the small stone sitting in the lobe of the heart.

Well I see that the hole that is shaped like a heart looks to be made from the open mouth of a turtle ? serpent ? and that the small stone is sitting in the mouth ??? BUT now I see another heart carved in the side of the cliff > directly under the hole heart ??? Gees OD I find these markings so interesting :) I wish I knew how to do the circles and stuff that TT does to point out things I see > I am however clueless on doing that :tongue3: work day tomorrow !! Kept up these wonderful post  Carolinadigs

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Here is a picture of a huge snake monument with my Partner Doug in front of it.
This is a rare one as it actually points to Danger, as do most snake signs.

The thing to remember is not just rocks and rock monuments and signs, I have shown here that stumps are good signs as well as are the trees themselves. These trees can and do live for many hundreds of years,
there is a record somewhere of one that is over 1000 years old and is still growing strong.

The Spanish would trim these trees so that they would grow and point the way.

or put a rock in the crotch of the tree to point out the trail,

they would take a long dead tree and lay it on the side of the trail.

or as I have shown before they would kill a tree and leave one branch to point the way.
Are those Juniper trees and/or did they use other type of trees. Cyn and I went out today in a remote area and saw some stuff that was interesting. I have seen lots of trees in the desert here that look like those. Just curious !

Hagerman,

I don't do much in Eastern or Southern CO.
I used to but work keeps me closer to home these days.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Dave,

Most of these are Juniper.
I have found aspen that are marked at hihger altitudes.
Many cottonwoods in the lower elevations and some pines are blazed.

Here is a Juniper that I ran across on another guy's site that caught my eye,
it probably would be close to a thousand or more years old.

wow...that old eh?? We have plenty of juniper around here...right in the middle of the biggest juniper forest in the world I think. lol

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Cyndi,
here is Ted standing near the tree and you decide.

You are aware that only part of the tree grows from year to year.
You also know it has very few predators and doesn't rot over time.
It can lay on the ground for centuries and remain the same.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Watch out for trees that have one side of their branches removed. They are definitely pointer trees. On some trees they will make a liar out of me and mean the opposite by leaving a single short limb or a grafted odd limb. max

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

wow! having Ted in the picture sure put it in perspective! That is a big tree! I typically refer to them as juniper bushes because most are not real big....that one is BIG in comparison! lol

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

I must agree with Hetty as far as trees with branches removed on one side.

Some of the blazes on the pines will fool you as well.
They will turn out to be nothing more than an old breakfast stop for a porcupine.

LOL

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Here is a picture from Victorio
He asked me to post it in case anyone could help us explain the initials on this stone.
They show up several times on his trail, and are always in this style.
The only thing I can think of is ...
If they are Spanish, this guy had a propensity towards grafiti.
Anyone elses ideas are welcome

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Forget the grafiti. The pic shows half a heart and a join onto another rock probably completing the heart message meaning this heart is pointing uphill to a gold cache at probably three and a quarter paces due west. Old dog , you and I would have a ball over here.

I get all my info from being a top dowser. Max
