Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

If anything I see a gunsight on the top,
Try lining up the ridge going up the long side with the sight markers on the top.
in short see what it points to.
I have marked out an example...
Note this only shows what the picture shows.
the marker may give you an entirely different picture.

This area caught my eye more than the boulder.

Thom,

Interesting that you say that because up on that ridge looking north from the left of this big rock is this picture. Not the best picture but it is a profile of a face.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

I used the notch as an example , LOL
It may have been used as a pass for mule trains, or supply caravans.
your part of the country was at one time part of an intricate mining comunity.
There was even a mission on your side of Colorado.

Many of the well established cities have roots in their Spanish names.

You may be exploring a main supply route.
I hope you have a metal detector for the campsites.
Many interesting things come from an afternoon in a campsite.

The Comstock's said:
In my other post I think I am seeing a snake head.

You could have a snake there...
But if you picture a broken off upper snout,
It becomes that ever contraversial alligator.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Olddog Sir, Have you ever seen Lions used as signs/ markers. Did the Spaniards use lions. I have seen several Lions in the field. If so what do they mean.

Lions are a common animal on a royal trail,
Most often they are seated or lying prone as if resting but vigilant.
See post # 27 of this thread
They will look in the direction of travel on the given trail.

Here is a good thread with an awesome lion

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,198811.0.html

I have seen a couple with the head down on the front paws, with eyes closed.
This one is no longer traveling and is resting at the omega site.
it sleeps as if it dozed off looking at the cache or mine.

always pay attention to the eyes...
the eyes will fill in a lot of blanks.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

I am new to this site but I've been hunting Spanish mines and trails for a long period of time. But since I've started checking out this site I've learned an awful lot from everyone's topics.

I have a question or two about some of my pictures. What do you think about this one?

Right next to this is a turtle head.

On the other side of the turtle head, which is part of the turtle, is the owl.

In my opinion the purple "U" with the heart in the middle of it means dig here. The turtle and the owl confirm it. But I would like your opinion.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

I don't have the expertise to advise you . I do think more knowlegable folks here will advise you to persue this .

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

Last picture looks like an elephant. Dont know its meaning. Sorry. Jim

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

lanny,

Welcome to Treasurenet.
Great pictures. But they are a bit close for a preliminary look.
Do you have a picture that shows this collection all in one given situation?
Preferably from the original angle you saw it from that gave you the idea there was a "Dig here" marker.

Here is a sign that sticks out for me right away.
Not surprised if you didn't see it, as it isn't in any books.
It was discussed pretty early on in this thread.
It ALWAYS shows up in the presence of a death trap.
Note , it doesn't show you where the DT is, only that there is one.
Just a heads up!

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

lanny,
sorry it took so long to reply.
I had to reformat the pix so I could work with them.
Thanks for the bigger view.

#1 I see not just a turtle head, I see a whole turtle
I don't know if you have ever done any study of sea turtles,
This one is doing something of GREAT interest!!!

#2 This is a very nice heart, as shown in your other pix.

#3 This little heart should give you enough confirmation to go ahead and look into a back hoe

FYI... that turtle... is laying eggs.

Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

A back hoe would be nice, but the boulders would eat it up.There are more death traps below it and the boulders are as big as
a car.It would be a 20 year project, maybe. There are a lot more sites to study, like this calf.I realize I do not have the skills yet
to decipher it.So I just put the calf back like it was and will come back to it later. These posts are great.I have learned more
in a few months off these posts -well its hard to explain, thank you.I am not much of a tracker, but my skills are getting better.
I will try to share more pics with everyone.

Lanny,
This one fits the criteria of things the Spanish didn't have to make but used anyway.
This is much older than the Spanish .
This is ancient.
But is a good trail marker, examine it for the marks the Spanish would have left behind.
