I’ve been detecting on & off for the past 30 years, but I’ve been going at it steadily with a concentration on colonial-period sites for the past 10 years, recovering many good finds. The last three years have been incredibly productive for me likely due to a number of factors; I’ve been very fortunate, and I’m thankful for that. I don’t know how long I can keep riding this wave, but for now I’ll just go with it and always hope for the best.

Stopped by our new site yesterday afternoon for a quick hunt and man am I glad I did! Hit the plowed area first and didn't find anything so I moved into the thicker grass area where it's harder to get the coil down but hadn't been worked as hard. Found two flat buttons and then got a good high signal and thought maybe it might be my turn to find a coin. Disappointed to see it was just a piece of copper plate, I thought. First of all.....WOW!

OKAY back on track! So a while ago, perhaps a week ago, I noticed that a field that has been very productive for us in the past had been plowed up and rained on. This field has given up many great finds, for me personally I have found an 1805 large cent, an 1820 capped bust dime (in amazing condition), my War of 1812 Massachusetts Artillery button, and my Washington inaugural button. I know of many other great finds that have come from here, but I don't want to take up the post with those finds :P

Please join me in my excitement this morning as yesterday I dug a perfectly beautiful rare CSA Atlanta Arsenal style belt buckle! It was my first target of the afternoon and while I'm amazed at my find, I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. Found it in the woods about 3 feet deep. Found using my Whites Industrial PRL-1 which goes pretty deep so I use it for going hunting in the woods. I honestly thought it was an old pipe of some sort but I guess not! It's marked "1851" "Mitteh" anyone have any info on that? Had no luck online.

Wow. I finally found one of my bucket list Civil War relics, but I would have never expected to find this one. From the research I've done, it seems this is a pretty darn rare buckle/plate. It has N. O. on the bottom signifying New Orleans. If anyone knows anything about this one, please let me know. It's for sure a buckle with the Louisiana State Seal used by the 5th Washington Artillery Unit, which I believe is the oldest standing artillery unit in America to this day.

Found this detecting in the woods yesterday. It's about 2 1/2" long with some kind of outdoor scene on one side. I couldn't find any other markings on it so I had it tested. Turned out to be 14k gold. Any comments on what it is or how old it is are appreciated.
