🥇 BANNER Viking/Saxon Cloisonné Brooch - Find of the year!

Viking/Saxon Cloisonné Brooch - Find of the year!
I wanted to do a separate post for this one, as it deserved it! I dedicate this post to Jeff of PA & his most recent comments on one of my latest posts.

This amazing condition plate brooch dates to the 10th-11th C AD. Our Viking period, & these brooches have strong associations with our settled Anglo-Scandinavian folk. However, no reason the Anglo-Saxon's could not have worn them. Because of the workmanship there are many that debate these must have been a high status piece.

It's not only my find of the year but my best Viking period piece ever.

🥇 BANNER Russia. My latest finds.

Russia. My latest finds.
Hi all!
Long ago I did not come here. It is a lot of works and moving to other house, did not give free time for hunting and the Internet. Last week I at last could make several hunts. I want to share with you the pleasure and I will show my finds.
As usual, with friends we went to the place of the former village. Using old maps and satellite maps, we found the place. Finds on this place have dating 13-18 century.
There are my finds

Copper ring. 14 century.

🥇 BANNER Roll out the red carpet...bonanza time...big silver, tree silver & MORE!!!!

Roll out the red carpet...bonanza time...big silver, tree silver & MORE!!!!
Wow what a hunt...so much so that I could not fit them all on my stool that so many have come to like. I had to roll out the red carpet on this one. I got together for my annual hunt with good pal Aquachigger for a couple of days. We spent time at some old sites and located a few new ones as well and the results were well worth it.

To start, we explored a new area for the first part of the hunt. This was a small wharf site that yielded a few buttons (including a worn foliated "A" artillery button) when I heard a large and deep hightone. Reading in the 80s, I was some what unsure...

🥇 BANNER It finally happened, a bucket lister completed !!

It finally happened, a bucket lister completed !!
Did some detecting this morning with my Racer2. Any time I'm able to get out anymore is great, and this hunt was (so I thought) shaping up to be an average hunt. I found six wheaties (1913S, 1923S, 1939S, 1941S, 1942S, and a no date), two Indian heads (1881 & 1905), a buffalo (1937), a toasted ?nickel?, a nice San Francisco dog tag, albeit some 54 years newer then the one I found a couple of weeks ago, a couple of pieces of .925 silver jewelry, two 1800's San Francisco Cable Car buttons (one from the Sutter Street Railroad with a train on it, the other from the Omnibus Cable Company...

🥇 BANNER Yes GW yes!

Yes GW yes!
Had a few hours to go back to the historic York church I've been hunting for a year or so. When I first pulled this out I thought it was just an ordinary dandy button, but quickly realized it was the holy grail of buttons! What we have here is a 1789 George Washington inaugural button! Within four feet I found a second one, but it has quite a bit of crust build up. The pattern on the second button appears to be different. Both have been cleaned only with a toothpick. Any button experts have an id in the second button or advice on further cleaning? There is gilt showing through on the...

🥇 BANNER My dream day

My dream day
Hi mates.
I'm in holidays. My best holidays. I began digging rusty metals but it ended on hammered silver coins. I wanted to share it with you but i'm speechless. I can only post the photos.
Your help is appreciated as always.
This is difficult stuff.

🥇 BANNER Union sword belt plate in great shape!

I'd say I dug this tonight, but as it was only about 2" deep there wasn't much digging involved. I'm a coin guy, so I had to get Keith @ Fort Bedford to positively ID this for me. Not being a relic guy though, I'm still stoked! I'm really impressed at how good of shape it's in for being perched basically on the surface of a rocky outcrop for 150 years.

One question I do still have - when I look these up online I see a similar but different pattern that keeps popping up everywhere (less empty space in the lower corners). Can anybody tell me anything else about this...
