WHO WANTS TO DIVE FOR TREASURE

Now your talking!!! Diving is something that I have always wanted to do..........I thougth about looking into it here in western NY . Lake Erie has a number of ship wrecks , with a number of wrecks still not located with some decent cargo lost. But some day I hope to get out and experience the thrill of the hunt . I have done some off shore searching but nothing like what you guys are doing. Wish you guys the best of luck and who knows!!! Someday.... ;)

Sea Hunter I am not a certified diver but if your looking for a deck hand for a week let me know I will be in Sarasotta, Florida for three weeks begining July 1-22 and would love to help if thier is room. ;D

Hello Seahunter, I got my dive certification a couple of weeks ago. I hope that I can get down to Jupiter and dive with you this summer. It looks like you had a great time Easter weekend.

Lee

Congrats on the cert Leebo, I can highly recommend diving with Scott for your first experience. You just can't beat his hospitality, site, and expertise to get you hunting like a pro. Scotty Lee is usually there and can give you a lot of great tips as well. It's a class act, and you'll be hard pressed to find anything not to like about the experience.

Jason

Looks like someone is out workin' your site.. Is this your Zodiac? Looking forward to meeting up with you later on when the conditions get right.

Scott, thank you again for last weekend.
As Jason put it, diving with you is an experience to always remember, and
I'm not just talking about the shipwreck.
You are a very sincere and kind person, allowing others to share in a unique historic adventure.
You have opened the minds of shipwreck enthusiasts from all over the world, and if we all keep contributing,
there's no doubt the bulk will one day unfold.
I, myself, ponder each day about the true drama that was staged back in the fall of 1659, the Viceroy and his correspondence ship full of possible contraband.
In reference to the location of the blowholes we were diving on, I have a question regarding the beach.
Perhaps Peg Leg could help answer. In past years, I wonder how far north or south coins dating from 1649-1659
were found....metal detecting on the beach. I'm convinced the ship did hit the shallows with extreme force and scattered about, only the heaviest materials localizing near where they were dropped. With artifacts naturally flowing in a northern direction, it would be educational to learn beach finding data in relation to the wrecksite. If tales of detectorists' finds aren't available, I'd be happy to contact the Maritime Museum in the county for possible information. Granted we weren't diving on an intact vessel, and sands and currents dramatically change over hundreds of years, but the spread of beach artifacts may be a significant link to finding the motherload.
Again, thank you, Scott, for your hospitality,
and thank you fellow divers for your welcoming spirit.
Laura

Laura,
I would doubt the Maritime Museum would have much information on beach finds. MDers keep their finds to themselves.
If you will check the Jupiter Inlet Cam shot you will see that the waves are going all the way to the dunes. Most of what you may be looking for is in the dunes. Yes sometimes the waves wash a few things ashore but the really good stuff is in the dunes. In fact there are a few ship actually located on dry land but you can never get to recovery them.
With the seas so high I would look for places where the waves have cut into the dunes-there are several you can see in the LIVE camera shot.
As far as where to look I suggest from Sebastian to Jupiter Inlet.
Good luck.

It was great meeting you and getting to dive with you. With any luck you will get to come back this summer when it is warm and calm and experience it at it's best. There is nothing like it when you are in warm, calm and clear water. We look forward to your return.
Scott
Ps; Thanks for the clock.

Hey Scott...

I've checked ... double checked and rechecked my Easter basket and I have found nothing but chocolate in mine! :'(
The chocolate just doesn't compare to the Easter "eggs" you found...Boy, they sure came out pretty. :P

Would love to have one of those made into a necklace hanging on a gold chain around my neck... ;)

Looking forward to meeting you and the crew.

Hi Wayne
Looking forwartd to your visit. With any luck we will probably have a couple other members from the forum here. It should be great timing for dive conditions.
Scott

Hi Seahunter,
I just found this site during a really long boring night at work getting
paid to surf the net. I'm a land locked Kansas City diver with lot's of
experience and I'll be making a trip to check out my dad's new house
on Marco Island some time in June or July. Even though I've been diving
for 20 years I've never been treasure hunting but I'd love to give it a try
while I'm down that way if you're still looking for volunteers. I have all
my own dive equipment. I need to make the trip before August because
I have some Delta Airlines travel vouchers to burn thanks to them losing
our luggage on a Cozumel trip I took last July.

P.S. I also have a Nikon with a FantaSea case that takes pretty good pics.
Here's one I took of a new friend I found off Islamorada last year.

Happy Hunting!
David

Hi David
Would enjoy having you come dive with us, but your friend is not welcome ever.

Well I don't know about that. It's hard to tell someone they're not welcome in their own home! Lol

I'm waiting to make plans on heading that way for the builder to finish the last couple things on my Dad's house so he can get moved in. I'll definitely let you know as soon as I do.

I guess my friends big sister that I ran across on the dive right before that isn't welcome either? :P

Rodney Jones joined us today and helped us find seven coins. Water was real clear which makes my photography look better than it is.

Wish I was there! To data how much have you found?

I'm really looking forward to looking you up when I'm down that way.

Keep up the good work but I hope you leave a little to find for when I'm there! ;D

David

Thanks for the updates, and photos Scott. It's great to follow you on your adventure, I always look forward to your posts and hope to join you for a few dives one day. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Jeff

Just curious Seahunter as I worked on the wreck a few years ago. Drove by the beach last week and lots of reef exposed (we had to move 20' of sand to get to the bottom when I was there). How much sand is covering the bottom now? Is the anchor and cannons that Peter Leo originally found still there (thought I saw a dark patch where they used to be), but someone told me they were pulled up a couple of years ago.

Oh well, glad to see you're still finding coins-I remember the Jupiter coins being the best of any of the wrecksites I had worked on as I could read the dates on many of them as I picked them up.

Good luck!
