What would you do?

Sounds like somebody is overly paranoid. Someone looks scruffy and says hey and he gets all scared. It is insulting someone to say go away, I don't have any, to somebody who hasn't asked for anything. Maybe they just wanted to ask a simple question like directions or something. A lot of self-defense enthusiasts chime in about some inane imaginary circumstances about what if your baby was in the car. If you carry a loaded firearm you are looking for trouble. That is how people get shot over minor misunderstandings and it happens all too often. I travel often in NY City, have been in bad neighborhoods and never felt the need for a firearm. I am a skinny guy and don't look like a fearsome bada** either. Most shootings are tragic, and most are senseless. Mace is a good alternative for paranoid people, but maybe spending some time with folks who aren't just like you and learning that although they may be poor, a different race, or speak a different language, they aren't going to actually threaten your life. Most folks want the same thing all of us want, peace, tranquility, kindness, respect, and dignity. Respect others and they will respect you.

Sorry, but the world is not all rainbows and unicorns. There are bad people in the world. I have traveled all over this country, lived in Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, St Louis, Minneapolis, Omaha, Lincoln, Tampa, Orlando and traveld through many more...... I have been in places in every one of those cities where it is a good thing to have a weapon with you.....

There are a lot of evil people out there, and there are a lot of people out there who get high and need a way to get their next high.......

more secure.

Not in agreement gunsil,i,m able to find trouble yet don,t when carrying a loaded weapon. Its been years and enough misunderstandings.
Its not carried to settle slights or disputes. No law requires even aiding any one being robbed or murdered.

Picker, i don,t worry about beating some one to the draw, especially if they have a weapon drawn on me. Best they don,t get distracted though.
Should i get shot and its not fatal before i return fire then my purpose becomes stopping the attack. Not causing the attack!
Would prefer once fired upon,(practice or lots of luck required to shoot handguns well) to have a response other than waiting for more.

EXCELLENT ANSWER ......if I could like that 2 times I would

Bevo: Thought about that as well. Would it have been a false sense of security? In that situation I'm not sure the gun would have helped that much. It is a tough decision to take on the responsibility of owning a gun...that is for sure.

bluedragon,

A couple of real life situations to ponder....most of my buddies in my misspent youth were the toughest and meanest street fighters you would ever wish to meet.

1:- A chap by the name of Denny kicked the living sh*t out of anyone who challenged him.....he did pretty good at it until he scrapped with the wrong guy who had a bunch of mean buddies also....they ganged up on him in a bar brawl....and when he was down they kicked him in the ribs and head and he died from a brain concussion at the ripe old age of 32.

2:-Another story for you to cheer you up.....in a pub one time when they used to have those stupid pong electronic machines and small tough guy wanted to have a game....told me he just got out of jail and pulled out a pistol and put it behind the machine on a ledge for safe keeping while we were playing.....we had a few games and I told him he was a big teddy bear.....found out 2 weeks later he shot his parole officer....

And no I don't run away from fights or confrontation.....just realized that with the years something called wisdom comes along and realized it's just not worth the grief anymore.....

Regards + HH

Bill

If you want to run from everything all the time that is your choice....and I truly HOPE it ALWAYS works for you...im just not that way..I will stand down or run from 3 or more but 1 or 2 , I will keep it peaceful or disable them if need be...Iv been through all the courts here for self defense and know all the laws in this state...

Huge responsibility. False sense of security? No way. The situation would have turned out the same, you just
wouldn't have had to get yer blood pumpin so hard. Its better to have and not need than need and not have.

If you think you needed a gun because of that. You do not need a gun.

Smart dude ^

TN: Nowhere did I say that caused me to need a gun. Please go back and read the thread and show me where I said that I now need a gun. TH suggested I get a gun and I replied that I had to put some serious thought into it. What I said was that the thought came to me, "Man, I need to get a gun." That was just a thought. It was a reaction to being confronted randomly in a parking lot. Also, it was primed by all the discussion on gun control in the news. Kind of like deciding you want to go to Disney World after watching the movie Aladdin. I, in fact, do not want a gun at this time. I just wanted to know what people who are responsible gun owners would have done in that situation. I was asking for opinions from people I respect. I was just trying to gather information...

I,m both their fans. Crispins for his career choice and too for putting him self out to learn more.
Bill cause he is a neighbor but also for being willing to help.
We don,t agree on every thing but there is nothing personal about that.

Again? I thought we just got done with this. It was a THOUGHT. Obviously, something that rarely happens to you. People think about things all the time they do not want to do. Isn't there a sandbox somewhere you can entertain yourself with. lol

Not a single person here including myself was there other than Crispin, he is the only one who knows if he felt threaten or not....so STOP ATTACKING HIM.....

No one here knows the mindset of the people that approached crispin....

My friend even though nothing bad happen it may cause you to think what if down the road.....

releventchair,

Thanks for bringing the discourse down a notch or two....lol.

Must be my celtic blood....I can get pumped up as much as the next guy......but if I've learned one thing over the years other than verbal sparring....the physical version ends up with someone loosing in the equation.....no win situation....took
me many years to figure that one out....but then again I'm a slow learner.

B1u, what part of STOP ATTACKING do you not understand? I want ask again......

Man im truly not attacking anyone ....Im sticking up for self defense and guns...and this is why SOME people should NOT have one....

So, I just got back from a trip to the Pinch-a-Penny to get chlorine for the pool (you northerners will not understand, so just roll with it.) Anyhow, I'm loading up the last gallon of chlorine into the trunk when I notice two scruffy looking guys coming towards me. One is on a crappy bicycle and the other is on foot. The one on the bike says, "Hey" and waves his hand at me. I do my usual, and without giving him a chance to continue say, "I'm sorry, I can't help you." I immediately break eye contact and open the car door. Well, this really irritates him. By the time I close the door he is within two feet of the car, his friend is now standing behind the car. (Light pole in front.) He starts yelling, "I don't need nothing from you, I don't need nothing from you." I turn the car on and glance over. He reaches into his jacket pocket...and pulls out a wad of dollar bills. Still yelling at me, he starts smacking them against the window. I throw the car in neutral and hit the accelerator. His friend jumps out from behind the car like a scared rabbit. I shift into reverse, pull out, and am gone. The whole event could not have lasted more then 10 seconds. It was one of those pulse from 60 to 180 in 0.3 seconds things (flight or fight.)

As I am driving away, I start thinking, "Man, I really need to buy a gun." Now, I don't own a gun, because guns kill people and I don't want to kill people. I have a samurai sword in the house but I obviously don't bring that in public. Speaking to the responsible gun owners out there, is there any point in this story that you would have pulled your gun out?

Thanks,

Crispin
Not just NO , but HELL NO ! You exhibited fine situational awareness and made the correct moves to enscone yourself in your car .911 time for the cell . ID yourself as victim and affirm that you will sign a complaint . Move car to safe place if they allow you , but stay on scene until cops arrive and tell your story as well as signing complaint . Pulling a firearm before they start breaking into your car is going to make you the guy that doesn't sleep in his own bed that night .

I will not warn again..... You were insulting, you called him simply minded and ignorant, and you attacked his family.............

I always carry my cell phone...except this time. I was working in the garden and around the yard all morning. When I'm working in the yard I leave my cell phone inside. I was just finishing up for the morning so I jumped into the car to get the chlorine without grabbing it. Doesn't it always figure?
