What would you do?

Did you feel your life was threatened? Would you have shot them?

At that distance deciding to pull your gun is to late. If someone is less than ten feet fromyou, they can get t you before you get your gun out and fire it and kill them. Just becuase you shoot so,eone doesnt mean they will stop, they may keep on coming. Removing yourself fro, the situatuon is the best way to go. You removed yourself from the situation and no one got hurt.

Yes, I was threatened...no doubt about it. Both these gentlemen were on drugs. I live in the meth capital of the US. It is my job to know when people are on drugs and what drugs they are on. Oddly enough, it saves THEIR lives. This man had loud, rapid speech, eyes dilated, and was extremely over reacting. We all get hit up for money. In this part of town their is a panhandler on every corner.

No, I would not have shot him. No way, not yet. I didn't say to myself, "Man, I need to buy a gun." Until I was well down the road and away from the situation. My primary thought was always to disengage. But I did think to myself. What if HE had pulled a gun on me. Then I thought, "it would have been too late." In order for a gun to have been of use to me in that situation I would have to have already had it at the ready. Then I thought, "wow, is that even legal to do?" So, I figured I would come on here and ask the professional, responsible gun owners what they thought.

Blu, I personally know Crispin, I am asking him to think what would have happen if it HAD BEEN a hostile situtation and he had his family with him.............

Oh, ok my bad

Just realize everyone is different...what could be threatening to him might not be to some one else...I would of turned around and said "whats up" but then again JUST LIKE YOU SAID, with a gun on you there is more of a back bone in people and I know how to fight like you...well stop a fight like you explained...peace

YEP! BEST decision, (IMHO).

Sounds to me, you were scared. You didn't give them a chance to explain anything....he pulled out money NOT a weapon...maybe he was asking for a ride...who knows. You took off like you had been threatened...could of been somthing nice or simple, but you went off, of there looks and nothing more...I have had, a carry permit for 12 years and had a lot of people walk up to me, and a few looked shady, BUT I have never ran from people, or pulled my weapon unless I was threatened....so your question really makes no since. No one with any since would of pulled a gun out in that situation unless your window was down and he reached in and grabbed you or opened your door...even then I would of just grabbed his arm and seen how good he would of kept up with my car...lol

Oh and GUNS DO NOT KILL PEOPLE....I haven't seen ONE fire on it's own my whole life...its the person HOLDING the gun that decides to pull the trigger and kill a person...

PLEASE..DO NOT get a gun, it will be bad for you and the person you MISUNDERSTAND...

I'm going to use small words so I don't confuse you. To make it even easier, I'll put things in bullet form so you do not have to take in a whole paragraph at one time.
1. I do not like your tone. This is the second time you have had this type of conversation with me. The first time I gave you a pass because we were talking about something I had a superior knowledge to you in. This time I am giving you a pass because you clearly have limited resources to deal with. Do not let it happen a third time.
2. Yes, guns do kill people. Just yesterday, my neighbor's gun got up in the middle of the night, walked out into the street all by itself, and shot a random stranger in the head. Nobody pulled the trigger. Nobody aimed the gun. The gun did it all by itself. The gun was locked in a safe, my neighbor is a responsible gun owner. The gun pulled a Houdini and escaped. Every day, rouge guns are out there killing people all by themselves.
3. I am a giant, I only move when I'm invoked. When I do, I'm going to step on somebody and not even know it.
4. Cool avatar.

In state of Florida you need the same license for a taser that you need for weapon.......

In your car if someone tries to force their way in you have the right to use lethal force just as someone pulls a gun on you, you have the right to shoot, in or out of your car....If as you described they appeared threatening and high you make the call, you do not know if they are armed you don't wait till a weapon is pulled on you either you leave if you can if they block you then speaking for myself I know what I would do...I bet your descripition is pretty accurate, being a resident here as well I know where your coming from on the meth comment........ I would have called the police and told them what happen as welll.

Sounds like somebody is overly paranoid. Someone looks scruffy and says hey and he gets all scared. It is insulting someone to say go away, I don't have any, to somebody who hasn't asked for anything. Maybe they just wanted to ask a simple question like directions or something. A lot of self-defense enthusiasts chime in about some inane imaginary circumstances about what if your baby was in the car. If you carry a loaded firearm you are looking for trouble. That is how people get shot over minor misunderstandings and it happens all too often. I travel often in NY City, have been in bad neighborhoods and never felt the need for a firearm. I am a skinny guy and don't look like a fearsome bada** either. Most shootings are tragic, and most are senseless. Mace is a good alternative for paranoid people, but maybe spending some time with folks who aren't just like you and learning that although they may be poor, a different race, or speak a different language, they aren't going to actually threaten your life. Most folks want the same thing all of us want, peace, tranquility, kindness, respect, and dignity. Respect others and they will respect you.

O great, they are multiplying! Well, please, tell me o wise one, what do you think he wanted? He had a bike and the other was on foot. Directions? Yeah right! How far can you ride your bike before you get lost? I didn't have a watch on nor did he seem to be in a hurry, so he didn't want the time. He was not bleeding nor short of breath, so I don't think he needed medical attention. I seriously doubt he needed my chlorine, the store was fifty yards away and chlorine is dirt cheap. He was trying to hit me up for money! He is a parasite. He had not shaved, he had not bathed, he was homeless or living in a tent. Do I assume too much? No! This is common sense. Maybe you and BlueDragon can form a gang and go demand all these people get treated with respect when they walk up to random strangers in parking lots.

gunsil/bluedragon,

The expression "choose your enemies wisely comes to mind" for some reason.....food for thought.

And having lived right in Boston and San Francisco for many years I can say for a fact that many of the homeless are folks who unfortunately should be hospitalized and can be quite unstable. Many of the simple "panhandlers" can get quite aggressive and attacks by unstable homeless are not uncommon in most cities.

If you carry a loaded firearm you are looking for trouble.........THAT STATEMENT IS WRONG ......so all cops are looking for trouble? What is this world coming to..

You just made a grave mistake...sad. It does not have to be this way. Apologize now and all is forgiven.

Let me guess......you voted for the KING didnt you....lol

Hmmm... Here in Lynchburg, Va., we have 17 gangs, including Bloods & Crips; wife & I travel in town with NO problems (ONLY during the day). NO CCW, and we BOTH know state laws of Self-Defense. I had SD training with Va. DOC, and would kill an aggressor, if necessary. NOT afraid to die, either; when you work in a prison... ANY day, could be your last (me). Wife DID NOT like THAT one bit... HA!

My view was posted further up in the thread....if you feel threatened better to walk away than have a confrontation....
and yes I've come across these dudes over and over again probably at least once a week.....not worth breaking a sweat over...

Confrontation generally gets someone hurt either the other guy or you....not worth the trouble for the most part.

Not in agreement gunsil,i,m able to find trouble yet don,t when carrying a loaded weapon. Its been years and enough misunderstandings.
Its not carried to settle slights or disputes. No law requires even aiding any one being robbed or murdered.

Picker, i don,t worry about beating some one to the draw, especially if they have a weapon drawn on me. Best they don,t get distracted though.
Should i get shot and its not fatal before i return fire then my purpose becomes stopping the attack. Not causing the attack!
Would prefer once fired upon,(practice or lots of luck required to shoot handguns well) to have a response other than waiting for more.

If you want to run from everything all the time that is your choice....and I truly HOPE it ALWAYS works for you...im just not that way..I will stand down or run from 3 or more but 1 or 2 , I will keep it peaceful or disable them if need be...Iv been through all the courts here for self defense and know all the laws in this state...
