I lost two very good friends in Nam.enough of that useless war.

"It was a morning like any other,............. my mom heard a car pull up and looked out the window,
the car was dark brown and wore US Government license plates."

"She stood, looking out the window, a dish towel in her hands,...... out from of the car,........
an Army officer,.....and a priest."

"They walked to the door of our neighbor,......two houses down,....my mom started crying"

"I wasn't sure what to do,....... so I went to my room, the house was quiet rest of the day"

"When my dad got home the two of them spoke in hushed tones, and the the house fell quiet again"

The young guy who had helped me with my go cart, gave me an old bayonet, and had a pair
chevy heads leaning against the wall of the garage,............ I never saw him again.

That was over 50 years ago,........ and to this day,.....I only have to close my eyes,..........

Tough and uncertain times they were.
We all have memories, some unimaginable, others we will never, forget no matter how old we get.
R.I.P. friends.

rook,

Canada got a big whack of Americans coming north courtesy of Vietnam.

Yep
A lot of people protested. I assume they stayed in Canada. You’ll never see people that fought sit down and talk about it that much. My unit the 223 combat engineers were 2nd priority to the 890th engineer Battalion in south Mississippi. They were called. We weren’t.

Somber end to Daytona 500 today. On the final lap, around the Tri-oval, Ryan Newman was turned, and slammed into the wall at 200 miles an hour. Corey Lajoie had no reaction time, and slammed into him broadside so hard, it flipped his car in the air and onto the roof. Newman has been rushed to a Trauma Center, just like when Earnhardt had his wreck.

I saw that.....wow there were alot of wrecks. It took them along time to pry him out of there. There was some other things that bothered me. Victory donuts while the guy you just pushed into the wall is still trapped in the wreckage......I know...he came low and tried to block. I hope I didnt here what I thought I did come out of the winner's mouth either. I'll have to watch and here it again before I can comment. # 22s bump drafting was dangerous too.....and he damn near wrecked the whole field. It was a darn good race and pretty exciting !!

I have read posts that he is seriously injures, but non life threatening.

I am with you, Bart. The whole time they (wasn't just Hamlin) were celebrating, I was thinking, "If that was me, there is no way I could be happy about the win. I would be checking on Newman." IDK. Easy to say that when there's no way I would ever be in those shoes.

It is considered the "Super Bowl" of stock car racing and I can only guess that when Hamlin won, everyone around him was saying don't worry he will be alright - just enjoy your third Daytona win. The driver may not have seen or known how violent that crash was. That did remind me so much of Dale Earnhardt crash.

I would be astonished if Ryan ever competes in NASCAR again. That serious type of crash and he is 42 years old.
