Used to go to Dauphin Island and get the shrimp straight from an old cinder block building just off the dock where they unloaded from the boats. The trick was to watch for the boats to head in then head for the dock. Of course even better than that was pulling your own net but then you had to do the sorting and picking.
Man , I'd sort and pick a couple dozen ; and giggle with delight!

I have a question for you most experienced detectorists. This came up while on our trip and I honestly don’t know. Can we metal detect the rest areas along the highways?
I defer to the others that shoot coins and jewelry. I am just a relic guy. But I think state rest stops will be off limits, and maybe even local government managed ones. Ask at the rest stop or the local government. Not much help I am afraid. Sorry. Good question though.

I’m by no means more experienced than you but I would think being public land yes detect away, but you should probably check with the attendant if they’re awake

I'd guess site specific.
Rest areas I've hit are about four inches of pull tabs.
And while not paranoid , situational awareness is paramount.
Beware of drug sites. Dog pottie sites. Diaper sites. Racoon strewn garbage sites.
Which is most of some sites. Even if not obvious.
I'll spare you the glowing eyes in one kind of remote (it was that night!) site we were not detecting at on a casino run. They were not looking to leave. And I was not looking to get any closer with my little light. But as my nature did observe. Not a small creature near the ground in height. Or coyote short. Deer distrust me usually for some mysterious reason. (O.K. that is warranted.)
Which , is better than some of the human characters that nearly make some sites a home turf. Eyes from a distance watching for prey might be a better description of them. No better closer either.
Thus ends my sermon about being aware.

Historic areas , (well real ones , not ones two miles away but we'll honor whatever it was here , building a parking site and clear a patch of ground by a main traffic fare) you'll know the drill on.
No sign prohibiting , I might be game.

Just another relic excuse.
If I didn't know better I would have thought that you sir would know that answer.
Don't ask of my thoughts on the matter.
Up here in the land of ice and Polar Bears you can definitely detect the rest stops.

My mother just sent me this, note the very different reaction she says creepy I say neat lol.
Dragonflies are harmless to humans and eat many harmful and aggravating insects too.Very beautiful and excellent flyers. I,ve got a book somewhere I could ID that one for you but I,m to lazy to find it.Maybe Manana.I while away many hours watching them while my wife thinks I,m fishing, never tire of it.

Well at least they only bother dragons. And not sure what Madana has to do with it but maybe she can tell us.
