Along time ago...(the 90s)...I was anchored in the dry tortugas yellowtail snapper fishing. There were many ships on the anchor around us, and one about 2 miles away had an anchor fly away.....just like the videos the brake failed and they lost everything. The point I'm trying to make is that the noise was incredible.....we could here this disaster happening 2 miles away, and the cloud of rust from the chain could be seen enveloping the entire bow of the freighter !!

It’s going to take a mighty big magnet to retrieve that one!
A drillship I was working on as a Diver was preparing to leave the Chukchi Sea after a season of drilling off of Nome, Alaska. Just prior to departure, a major storm hit and battered us about for 24 hours. The storm blew all night and started to abate by early morning. I awoke to learn the forward port anchor windlass had been torn from its' mount, ripping away some deck plating and a portion of the port rail, before disappearing into the churning sea. I dived to locate it and rig it for retrieval; luckily, it wasn't far from the rig and they had it back on board in good time. Repairs were made & we sailed for home, only to run smack into another gale! This time, we plowed on through it without incident, arriving in Esquimalt, B.C. a few days late, but in one piece!

First, Good morning and welcome to the thread. Second, that’s some scary sounding adventurous job. Third, thank you for the geography lesson. I never heard of those places and looked them up.
