Last summer made soap from waste restaurant cooking oil, some oil like that in the top image are best left behind but I wanted to try out the salting procedure.

To reclaim the usable fats the solid blocks were melted over a layer of saturated salt water, the junk and bad smells go into the water leaving clean fats on top of the brine.

I had to refresh the brine four times to get the fats cleaned up, I used the fat from that batch to make suet mixed with bird seed.

A bar of home made soap lasts four times longer and clans much better than the commercially made soaps which have had the glycerin removed.

I've kept enough soap to last me the next five years and have given some to neighbors.

I use the cold process to make my soap, distilled water works best, sodium hydroxide aka ( Lye ) make a hard bar. A paint paddle on the Milwaukee drill does the mixing, once trace becomes visible it's time to transfer into the molds.

I use "my radar" the purple lines represent wind direction and strength.....I can overlay that on the radar or take it off and just see the rain and storms. As a fisherman I always want to see wind strength !!
