Headed off about 8 a.m. or so with my gear and lunch. The site I had picked out was a dud so switched to plan B and went back around an area which produced in the past.

Nothing earth shattering just coffee money, however, I did manage 1 keeper a sterling men's ring.

A tune for what ever reason.

Nice ring bill...looks pretty chunky !! Wonder if its old.

Bart,

Might have a bit of age since it's stamped sterling instead of the more recent 925.

.800 is sterling silver too.

Your Canadian quarter dollars and dimes used to made from .800 sterling.

Coin silver*(900): Since it is only 90%*silver, this alloy cannot be referenced as*sterling. Items made from this alloy may include marks such as 900,*Coin, and Standard. European*silver*(800): Sometimes referenced as continental*silver, this is another non-sterling*type of*silver*alloy.

Jim,

Yep...sterling requires a purity of .925 silver....I've found silver with different purity levels such as 850, 875 and 975, etc though.

No consensus there. I looked it up and the English defined sterling as .925 or greater in like 1275AD. Silver alloy can be considered "coin silver" anywhere from .75% to 90%. Chances are that if the maker and actual fineness isn't stamped the hallmark isn't valid.

I think more silver hallmarks are lies than silver hallmarks are honest. The schwarter's solution (acid) test for silver cannot distinguish between varying grades accurately the way that gold acid tests (sometimes) can. The only way to determine silver fineness for sure is to refine it. Even then, it is a hell of a lot easier to refine to 98-97%. It requires electrolysis to get silver above .990.

Coingrats (:laughing7:) on the ring recovery Uncle! I like it.
I'd be calling the heart shapes deer tracks and wear it a while.

Got hold of a spoon handle ring last weekend that Dad made a long time ago and didn't even clean it before wearing. (Hey it fit.) Sure had some crud transfer to my finger.
I cleaned it partially after a while.... Ahh. Hindsite....

Morning Treasure Net Crew.

Caught wind of a boat overturning in the keys.
