Under the spanish palmetto ? Old conch just told me a secret. And that secret is to look for what he calls the spanish palmetto tree. The cuban/spanish fishermen and merchants planted the water sources, salvage camps, and farm plots. It still carries on in those areas and I've been told to go for them straight away when I see them. The old conch is a bit squirrely but he's damn right about this one.....first place I saw it was marqueasa key...north west portion of the island. That is where the salvage camps were for the atocha, and Santa margarita !! Taffi fisher was given a big fine for digging the mangroves and other vegetation at these salvage camps. She gladly paid that fine and stopped digging.....I wonder how much great treasure they dug off the island...enough to easily pay the fine im sure !! Have seen the same palms on the content keys....I've herd spanish coins have been found there too !! I know one thing....ill be researching this now, and keeping my eyes open out there. So much to explore in the keys...its crazy....just tracking down the stories is a task !!
