I was expecting it would of fetched more. The 10% Barrett Jackson gets from the sale(from the buyer) I'm sure covered expenses..:)

Barrett Jackson gets the 10%-winner.

I meant the total cost of building the Roadster-the total costs from start to finish. Billable hours-restoration-trades-that is what I was getting at. Some very serious coin went into the ride.
From just doing a little on body's and power I can appreciate the workmanship that went into this one.

WOW WEE ! Sold at the auction yesterday..A one owner... 1970 Chevelle SS 396 .Sold for $160K

Mornin all.

Let's see if I can recall this right....

Neighbor years ago had a Cobra Mustang.
We used to race a certain stretch through lights and first at a certain distant light won.
I ran a Dodge truck... Only beat him a couple times..

Neighbors buddy who I won't name less he somehow be reminded , had a 68 Chevelle. (I would acquire a 66 shortly after but it was a sedan and a 200 engine , no , not a race car.)
That Chevelle was the guys former high school car and was immaculate. And mostly stock.
I rode in it and was quite impressed. Hard to find any sign of wear on the interior or exterior. I didn't look at the foot pedals. The way he maintained it they had probably been replaced anyways.
It was not unusual to visit him and find him in the garage detailing something on it. If nothing else , the engine could be buffed somewhere kind of attention.
Needless to say the neighbor and his friend street raced (I'm not thinking that was very smart today , but it was what it was ) and had an opponent or two that was serious competition.
Rather than develop an engine build or something on the Chevelle my neighbors buddy parked it across the street from my house with a for sale sign on it.
Shortly after the first guy that stopped bought it for 3200 (?) (1980-81 time frame.)
Sellers remorse was quite evident , but on we go.
He bought a Corvette and proceeded to get his butt whipped in racing attempts over and over. (One of his earlier competitors ran a Vette , but was likely built quite different than what he acquired..)
Then came the day he rolled up in a very conservative Mustang. A grandmother going to bingo type Mustang.
He still (understandably) regretted selling that Chevelle.
His racing (heck , his driving fast too) was over.

Makes me wish I still had my '66 Chevelle Malibu Classic!

Funny thing, a lot of the frame was rusting away but the outer shell still looked good! And the motor still purred!!!

I sold it to a teenager in the 70's. His dad was there and was trying to discourage him from buying this "hunk of junk"!

His son admonished him! He said he didn't even care if it didn't run! He just wanted the body!!
:)
One of the last cars with "fins" on the recessed, rear window.

Reminds me of a guy who tricked out a VW Beetle with Corvette engine. LOL

There were some Nova's with big engines dropped in them that did more rubber burning than going zoom....
A good value those Nova's were when new. Lot's of options for configurations.
But ya , seems there was always someone defying weight and balance and stuffing mega horsepower in one thing or another.

Snack time...Baked stuffed clams...prep time 5 min.
Chopped clams,panko breadcrumbs, Parm. cheese,lemon juice,parsley,paprika,salt,pepper,oregano,butter, olive oil,,,....350* for 30 minutes:)
