Morning Bart:hello:

It's a time sucking job doing this but the results will last longer than I'll be walking around on the upper side of the green turf of life.

Just that days are getting short and cooler-will have to heat up the pine tar/Linseed oils to a higher temp and keep it there while doing the application. By doing both sides the oil soaks right through the grain on the 1 inch pine boards.
It's just grabbing the allotted amount of time to do it all in one go is the issue. There always seems to be a left curve ball waiting around the corner to blind side my plans.

Top of the morning guys!! Things are getting a little better for me, got a job on the west side of the state in Traverse City, I just put a down payment on a semi rustic log cabin with a small lot and 1000s of acres of state land across the road nearest store is about 15 miles away lol perfect.. The cabin is 2 hours from home and 40 minutes from the office..Ill post a pic of here in a minute

Niccccce buddy... if I only had a quarter for every time I heard someone say that about their favourite piece of equipment!
I also can't tell you how many times I've heard...

"I can't believe I actually used that old piece of equipment for so long. This new excavator, loader, skid-steer, track loader is amazing, why the hell did I wait so long to buy a new one!"
:laughing7:

Good morning Bart.
Best of luck on your 'land hunt' today.

Oh that can be said and I have said it myself many times in the past while in business. Running old fork lifts-then buying $35K one-then a $60K one. Buying a $192K roll-off after doing the band-aid treatment to another. $100K for a wire processor, $70K for a smaller truck, $40K for the baler, $15K for a wire stripper, oh that's just a start of buying new in my past life of buying new when the old got tired.
Now it's just fun and games in life Dave-no need to be pushing it hard earning the retirement-when retired.
Oh don't get me wrong-there will be new in the future.

Toecutter,

Glad to have you back onboard and nice to see things are looking up.

yup...I know what you mean. Had to do all the back sides first so my A faces could be kept from drips.....then flip all boards and do the a face....mine go on the inside for show so its a bit different....still filled the whole shop with boards and battens on every available saw horse and work bench....not sure how many boards there were, but dang it was alot. 2 months of sanding and finishing. Thats after a week of sawing logs....I'd do it again....satisfying work !!

Here's a pic of the Whiskey Creek cabin, whiskey creek runs threw the lot..

Wow, what a sweet looking place Toe, that will be a great escape for the weekends.

Does the site have any history to speak of, from your pic, the cabin looks to date from the 50s or 60s. :icon_scratch:
Dave

toecutter,

Nice little log cabin you've got there. It gives you a place to stay closer to your new job.

I would be too !! I think that's a dream for many of us !! Mines a beach shack on a small island !!

My dream that is !!

See I love the old-reuse a rubber band till it breaks-I only buy new when time is due.
Spending a grand here or there on small equipment no problem.
Spending $40-60K on something that is used for logging, digging, pulling, lifting, isn't warranted in my lifestyle.
Oh I sometimes dream of having a simple new-then again I would have to take care of it-watch I didn't scratch it-worry about this and that.
Nope not for me.

Then again you sound like a salesman Dave-telling a customer what he needs-instead of what he wants. :laughing7:

I realize you've always been an 'equipment guy' Jim, I'm also just yanking your chain buddy.
But I'm a salesman... I'm always closing! :laughing9:

Morning TC

LOVE IT!!! CONGRATS!

Any history to the cabin?

Dave

Where not sure, the maple tree out front is a big one, we where thinking 40s but you might be right 50s - 60s, I haven't done any research on the cabin or the area...

I dont think there is much history on the property, the area is quit remote all though a mile down the road is a river that has history..
