One of my favorite movies!

In elementary school I read all the works of Cooper's they had in the library.
Anytime a book is made into a movie , it risks going out the window after butchering....And many end up far removed from their origins.

Cooper's adding romance between characters ,and his usual struggles (or their struggles) was put in film. I'd have not dwelled on it , but hey , it was reflecting the original authors work...And a common theme of his he seemed to have to add.

Cooper's ,and his writings opinion (if opinion is the right word) of natives is a subject on to itself.
I think the film dealt with "it's" presentation of natives fairly better than books , though I didn't criticize the books. Rather, read them for their sake .
What they are as the author wrote them.
The film did catch some of the internal conflicts between nations , and the whole.
Did it capture the natives being pawns enough in the French and Indian war? Or what they felt as alliances changed ,and their results/rewards following the war vs what was expected?

The massacre of Fort William Henry did happen. So we have some historical base to build a story around.
Did Monroe/Magua conflict and result represent well enough the fact that there were warriors that traveled far during war for blood?
It was not a one way street, that blooding.
Killing prisoners or unarmed folk was nothing new for both sides but the movie didn't quite define that it was simply blood/human lives and as such success.. Not how it was obtained as if there were rules or scruples affecting the why ,so why any other part of it?...

The scenery was great. Soundtrack too. That helped.
Uncas's passing was history passing. The movie did fairly well with that . But like other aspects didn't make monuments out of the many glimpses of what the era saw.
The background of displaced tribes , prior alliances , and the diplomacy required to float them among the distrust even nonacceptance of the terms others agreed to are hard to get in films sometimes. I got into a sloshing mixed trend trying to keep up when varied prior wars effect on relationships
were bantered about on occasion. Not sure viewers caught the hows and whys of the wars cause , and how varied parties felt about all those involved. Even if looking at just one side of the combatants.

Often the British are portrayed as snobs. How British!
Yet soldiers were a low caste in their society. That was the reason most were there/here. There was a British commoners saying ,
Better a dog than a soldier".

Writing "hinges" were not unlike how Hawkeyes treatment by the British is portrayed when he is arrested. A part of the story needed for Cooper to takeoff running on his way writing I guess. "Our" Hawkeye would not have been caught by the snobbish oafish overly starched Brits though! L.o.l.
But Cooper makes it happen easy enough by his romance (human ,not historical) aspect again , while those knowing better yell at Hawkeye ,(who just doesn't seem to know better despite knowing all the threats of his world) to quit risking his life over a female again. And again. And again....In Cooperesque fashion , yet again.

I never read the book. I was never much of a book reader and certainly not historical books. My interest in history didn’t surface until later in life. When I was a teenager, I did get introduced to Stephen King books. I learned from that I need to watch the movie before I read the book, or else I get upset about what changes Hollywood makes. I don’t think too many women would watch/read anything historical or war related unless romance is added.
I watched the movie because I thought it was going to be more about the Mohicans. I am interested in the native Americans and have realized how foolish I have been to look to movies for information.
I do feel the movie showed me the contrast in warfare of the structured vs guerrilla.
LOL I just had some friends drop by and we got on the subject . She said,” I don’t think women are wired that way making it hard to learn certain stuff and retain the information.” I agree.

Good afternoon WD, RC, Anti, Pepper (busy, busy), WHADIFIND, Rook, Bart (he's back!), ARC, RR (shhh, out hunting), and the rest of our awesome crew!

Did I hear there is a rum birthday party on ye'ole ship at 5? Yea!!! Hurray! Happy birthday rum! Uh..I mean RCT (THE 2nd!)

You crew mates have been very busy..or was that naughty??? Oh well, we party!!!
I hear we're walking on the wild side! ...that would explain Anti restoring a silver tongue!!! Oh wait, that was a ring! Yes very nice job Anti.
I guess we can remove the silver coat on WHADIFIND's tongue now, hold still this may hurt a little...wait, come back here!

I found this trail of...mmm..cherry Kool-Aid on deck, is there more, tastes a little salty but ok.

ARC I couldn't find 2 candles for the cake, will these kegs with a fuse do?

3 minions on deck, save me some rum & cake if I poof! Again.

WHADI those were nice finds your last walk. What is the silver bobble on the necklace, and is the metal blob on the left...a melted piece of eight, by chance?? ...hope so:hello2:

Hey hey , MsBeeps! Good to see you survived the sharks with long swim! Hopefully you will get a little holiday time in with all your minions running around. Of course you know I always have a tankard or two of rum stashed for you!

Thanks MissyB!

The blob thing sort of looked like it had faces on it, thought I'd post to see if anyone else saw.

The silver looking pendant? I could swear I'd seen that pattern before but I just can't recall where or what it meant. :dontknow: Must be for the "younger" crowd. ;)

BTB ...next time swim in front of the hurricane. You'll get there faster!
