I dropped off a small jar of sauerkraut to one of my neighbors Slava who's from Russia.

Just got 2 thumbs up so now I've kind of decided I'll be sharing my ferments with neighbours in the area.

I figure in a small way I can brighten peoples day during this crazy covid era we're all living through.

That's very generous of you Bill. :icon_thumleft:
I think we could all use a little more neighborly kindness these days.

Well tomorrow it will be exactly three months since we lost our dog Lilly. :sadsmiley:
Good news though, we're finally ready to get another dog. After a few weeks of research we've decided on a 'Coton-Bichon' or 'Biton' as they're better known.

On Saturday, we'll drive 2.5hrs to the breeders who live on a farm near Wallenstein, ON. We'll then put a deposit down for a dog that is scheduled to be born at the end of August.
We should be able to pick 'her' up at the end of October, my daughter wants to call her Oakley. :laughing7:

Coton-Bichon Dog

"The Biton brings the best of both worlds into one incredibly amazing little dog! This designer dog breed is a superior hybrid both in appearance and disposition. Bred by crossing two pure breeds, a Bichon Frise and a Coton de Tulear, the Biton has naturally inherited many of the best qualities and attributes of his or her parents. Great socializing skills, alert, pleasant, friendly, and mild-mannered they have an overall cheerful attitude happy and positive. They aim to please enjoying nothing better than to be in the center of attention. This gentle breed adapts well to a variety of lifestyles from limited to boundless spaces, from children to pets to the guest at your door. The Biton is a good match for people with allergies as they are hypoallergenic and non-shedding. Brushing, which is not too difficult, is required, as well, an occasional bath will keep their hair so beautiful! The Coton-Bichon breed is a wonderful companion and highly recommended therapy dog. With their sweet and cute expression, the Biton has a way of warming hearts and he will remain your best friend for life!"

Dave,

Good luck with the new addition to the family.

Dave,

With all this covid crap going on time to do our little bit to add a bit of positive vibes in our neighbourhood....

Well they certainly have the cute factor to them.
You're going to have a great time with the little puppy.

I've been fortunate to have many interesting friends, neighbours and acquantances over the years.

One of the more distinguished one's is Terry Mosher a well known political cartoonist.

Dave,

Good luck with the new addition to the family.

Thanks very much guys.
In all honesty, I'm not ready yet but I know my wife and daughter need a dog to keep them company once I'm back to work.

Heading out early tomorrow to a site in Northeast Oshawa to a small hay field in a long gone hamlet called 'Foley'.
There were originally 5 houses here, so I'm going to give the field in their backyards a shot before the developers build on it next year.

The Arkies dug two of the old foundations closest to the intersection, but from what I understand found very little.
I did a sweep of the area that they dug back in April and didn't hear a single target.
:dontknow:

And....

Pepperj! Have that young whipper snapper over and let him catch some of those nibbling blue gills off of your dock. (Assuming you have a dock)

My neighbour won't swim because they nibble his nipples. :laughing7:

Best of luck on the hunt Dave.

Bart,

Good score on the gold and I presume silver ring!

...................goodnight folks.

Dave: Tiquearian.
On your pup.
Not saying you don't already know....The breeder will play a major roll in your pups development and socialization in that time frame between birth and eight weeks.
What is ,or is not done will affect the outcome.
You'll want to know if you don't already what the pup experiences. Sights and sounds and changes vs same scenario for eight weeks.
Other dogs. (Beyond litter). Different textures underfoot.
Eyes, ears, mouth checked frequently. (The vet appreciates that as much as the owner(s).
We've even used a q-tip/cotton swab between toes for stimulation.

What is worth avoiding at all costs is a pup that was isolated with momma ,and or it's littermates and nothing changed. Humans equating to food alone. With occasional distressing vet trips for shots. (Change of environment. Change in routine. Change in sights ,sounds, involuntary dizzying movement , being handled by strangers ect.
As a former breeder watching other dogs at the vets sometimes, between the owners lack of experience or applying any rational , and the dogs previous experiences; there are some unpleasant goins ons.
Vs a dog that is having a good time visiting a vet. with someone it trusts is looking out for their well being.

For an unsociable , don't like any change routine regimented dog that don't know what a lawn is,or people,or what to do with people. Isolate the pup/group. The longer the isolation , the more the drawback evolves and ingrains.
It'll make for a nervous guard dog. Kind of. The vet won't applaud. Nor most anyone in contact.

Gold, silver, and stainless bill !! The heart ring is silver and has a fancy hallmark. They should make it so you'll get a divorce if you have stainless wedding bands.....this way they would all be gold !!
