The Lost Doc Thorne Mine - was it the same mine of Jacob Waltz?

Pretty sure the Sups are where I have marked it on the map

Hmmm ... lots of confusion with an 1865 map by intelligent folks using New Millenium technology trying to figure out where things are. I'd like to see some maps from 1850. Or what the Taos trappers used ca 1820-1840. Or the Mexicans' maps in the pre-Anglo era, if such maps exist other than in treasure hunting books.

On the 1860's map I posted there is a place called Jacobs Well in AZ it is located near New Mexico, very close to: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=35.+...15,109.291821&sspn=0.023483,0.061798&t=h&z=13

On Google Earth there is a Jacobs Well in AZ fairly close to Nevada at: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=+36....7,-111.826901&sspn=0.011981,0.022724&t=h&z=16

Could Jacobs Well on the 1960's map be Jacob Waltz's ranch?

Also, the same map is very similar to the peralta stone. X =mines... Teepee= indian camp... a stream and path are shown on both.

Also, the Waltz ranch was washed out in a flood as was the Mammoth Mine in 1890 ( I think it was 1890)

Four distinctly different locations, Jacobs Well East AZ, Jacobs Well NW AZ, Monmouth Mine, Mines on Map all of which could be part of the mystery.

Just some stuff to chew on.

Waltz's filed claims. It is four documents but multiple claims. If I'm reading then correctly it looks like 15 claims.

Yes you are right the northern part is there but I believe the map was not drawn correctly as the red out line you have on there should continue down ward towards the southwest some more.
Masons valley, or top of the world is only 2 miles long.
And actually,is on top of the mountain. It is a valley, but on top of the mountain.
There is also a very large apple grove up there. I have a friend who has passed away but he had a horse corral and small barn up there and I have been up there lots of times. Deer and black bear are up there also.
Plus lots of other critters.
The apple grove is or was on the south side of 60.
Make a right on the large road where there is a small farm, about midways of the valley. If you want to look at GE.
I think the range should come down below the word ruins, and a little above the word trail below the word massons valley.
Massons valley is a long word, and it just showing the area it is in,not the exact spot.

A very small piece of an 1880's map. What do you think about the spot marked "Hidden Treasure"

It was just a quickie and only to show the approx location of the range we now call the Sups.

well. up there on the sacred oak flats, was a series of small cottages...back when ...that had a constant flow of men throughout the night....small café had a pool table and a lot of young bucks hanging about...

I never saw the cottages so they must have been destroyed or taken down by the time I arrived in the area.

I believe these claims where the ones by Prescott. By Waltz. Which is why I never understood how or why he did not file on his mine in the supes.
Does not matter if he shot anybody either because it was not there claim and if they destroyed the bodies, wheres the proof.
He already got away with the one incident by claiming the person came into his home, took his shotgun, and shot another man and he was innocent.
And he got away with it.

Right,it was the Peraltas mine i thought.
He had permission to work it,or it was given to him,or it has been said that he even purchased it.
Or did he actually just go out and claim jump and murder.

Howdy All,

It is my opinion that the only reason Waltz filed any claims, was to have an excuse to sell his gold from the mine he took from the Mexicans. The claims were also decoys for others to go try and jump.

Homar P. Olivarez

Maybe Mexicans maybe not. Don't forget the two murdered solders. Someone was working that mine before Waltz. That was touched upon at the class. Jack thought the solders stumbled upon the mine ore dump. Material that was not processed yet. Their bodies were then removed from the area.
