Well amigo I would say they are worth seeing, and if you are in the area it is almost mandatory to visit Deadwood, though that has been commercialized a lot recently and quite a different experience from even 20 years ago. Your ref to the "dead mans hand" led me to that conclusion, as Deadwood is where Wild Bill met his end, and his poker hand has become the proverbial "dead mans hand" - aces and eights, all black. At one time they had his card hand on display, not sure anymore.

From June through October or so there isn't anything cold about the Black Hills and
surrounding area, 110 degrees in August on the northern plains is very common.
We were in Deadwood about 5 years ago when the grizzly gulch fire broke out, I think
it was 105 there that day. We where among the last one hundred people to
leave town when they evacuated the whole area,
they didn't know if the whole town was going to go up or what.

The Black Hills are a must see and there are other out of the way attractions all
over the area that don't see alot of tourism. But that might be okay to those of
us up here who don't make our living from tourists. Personally I would like to see
this area stay the way it is but what I like is seldom what happens. Deadwood was
a great getaway years ago, now it's a freaking carnival side show, slot machines in
the grocery store, sheesh.

Okay they gave me a car and I have givin them back most of it, some at the
poker table, some to the bandits. All good fun. I would rather be out hiking the
hills but my lady likes to watch colored wheels spin so what do you do?

I haven't decided, I'm one of those that wants to see the game play out... I'm very curious about what Reps are planning (or think) for Her.
