South Carolina sheriff refuses to lower flag in honor of Nelson Mandela

Actually Ronald Reagan and John Wayne bravely defended Hollywood from a Japanese invasion.

:)

opps look like I got it wrong :(

Good example of how the right will stoop as low as to desecrate the memory of our dead war heroes to further their hate message.

More to the point - the integrity of Navy Seals would never allow them to post such a message.

Native Floridian:

Not to mention a wild mis-use of the American flag.

The upside down U.S. flag is an official signal of distress. It is not meant to be, and is not officially recognized as any type of disrespect when so displayed for the right reasons. To the contrary, here is the relevant part of the US Code of Laws regarding how to fly the flag when in distress:

THE FLAG CODE
Title 36, U.S.C., Chapter 10
As amended by P.L. 344, 94th Congress
Approved July 7, 1976

(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

And saying that will get you fired from every Fortune 500 company in the country. As will calling our president a racist.

They've got rules and policies that protect people from harassment and hate messages. The end result of learning that lesson in courtroom after courtroom where the Judge and Jury tells them to get their checkbook out.

A Christmas shopping idea:

I'm sure you have a point behind digging up OLD ancient advertising but I fail to see what it could possibly be. Oh wait, more off topic smoke & mirrors. But but... you're buddies keep complaining to the mods about making off topic posts. Make up your minds. Can you say hypocrite ? I knew you could.... Old Bookarooo you and your cronies really need to get it together, call a meeting, whatever it is you do, and decide if you want to continue posting totally off topic crap like this 50 year old Reagan ad or if you want to continue whining to the moderators and causing threads to get locked because of off topic posts. You can't have it BOTH ways. Thank you for understanding.

I DON'T Have time to play with you right now,but I'll be back! :-)

Do you speak from experience ? Have you defended the flag ? Were you in the military ? Please tell us what YOU know about respect for the flag....

I'll let OB speak for himself. That said, one does not need military experience to know what respect for our flag is. Or what it means to be American.

njal:

Yes, a wildly inappropriate use of the American flag:

"g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to
it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any
nature."

PS: Same goes for authors of "conservative" books who use the flag on the dust jackets. Offensive.

Well there's the rub my friend. It's a simple easy to understand question that a few of us have asked him yet he declines to answer it. As you know, the military teaches us to respect the Constitution and those who died defending it from ALL enemies, foreign AND domestic. It teaches respect for our traditions and values. I find it to be pretty easy to spot those who do not have those values and the answer to that question might explain alot. Or maybe I'm just being nosy.. LoL

See what I mean NF... He posts what suits him and ignores the "uncomfortable" comments and questions.... Nuff said. I was just informed that it's time to "get off my lazy a$$ and go to the post office"

Please put thread back on topic, off topic replies will be deleted.

NH, with due respect to your opinion I disagree. I served not one but two tours in Vietnam. I flew Slicks the first trip, UH1 gun ships the second round. I also did a short stint flying Kiowas. Needless to say I've seen it all and done most of it. I don't wave the flag about my service, many of my friends have no idea. Most of it is best forgotten and locked away. I don't view any of it as defending my flag ( no disrespect for those who do). I was just a stupid kid who had no idea the bargain he was making to learn to fly helicopters. A kid who grew up in a hurry.

That said, My belief is that my military experience does not put me in a position to stand in judgement of anyone. Serving is a highly personal decision. And certainly not a decider in who can speak and who can not. In fact, if I fought for anything, it was a person's right to speak.

TH I know, off topic, but responding to NH who is bringing the same question into other threads. That question stands here and in at least one other thread.
