I don't know if the seeds were GMO or heritage types but I bought some green onions this spring and cut off the green parts to use. Then I planted the root parts and I ended up getting about 4 or 5 cuttings. The last ones have been harvested and are in the fridge.-

Unfortunately more and more things get genetically modified here and you just get a "one shot" - means the seed will not grow anymore.
Oh, did I mentioned that it is also now forbidden here to sell or buy any natural seeds?? ! NO JOKE!
If you have any old and original sorts of tomato's, appels etc you just be able to exchange seeds with other people but I think "they" will also find a way to ban that too in future.
WE just can wish for all responsible´s a very very painful
