I cant believe that my wife and kid would go up summer after summer and I never went. Until the story of the still I had no intrest.....now I'll go every chance I get. Lots of opportunity in the ground up here. Artifacts everywhere up here. Gilbertsville, Morris, oniata, mt. Upton, etc. These small towns go way way back. I was unaware that my aunt was a big shot and is being groomed for the town historian position. I can get permission to hunt almost anywhere. Gonna try and get back in the fall. Our property is in Gilbertsville. My other aunt has a 1830s house in oxford ny. That property is next on the list !!

Wow, need help lol

Im gonna go for coins next time. Less feilds and more home properties. Only found a few coins this time in the feilds and creeks.

Bart,

Very interestiing story and hope you find the mother lode on your return trip. Lots of shady dealings went on during the prohibition era.

I recall a Canadian detectorist saying that when he was younger he worked as a waiter at a pub in Windsor, Ontario. In the cellar there was a tunnel that went under the river to the Detroit side that was used to smuggle contraband liquor into the U.S.

Keep the crew posted.

Building another sand sifter. This one out of PVC pipe.It will be ....30" wide 48" tall. The mesh/screen will roll up on the 2 front vertical 48"x2" tubes into a small package for transport and set up at site in one minute:)006.webp
It should sift through a shovel full of Dry Sand as fast as you want to shovel it .Thinking of placing a beach towel at the forward base to catch the "good stuff" for later examination.

My great grandfather (in that neck of the woods) made his own hooch ,everyone did back then,it was no big deal. The local Sheriff would stop by(in his unmarked car) LOL to try out the newest batch.Ah,the good old days.Anyhow, I remember as a kid they got pretty slouched.I'm sure they dropped some coinage,by the time they left.Time frame.mid to late 50s.

RTR,

Pretty soon you'll be able to market some of these items, make yourself a bit of pocket money to subsidize your detecting.

RTR,

You'd be surprised how many people couldn't be bothered to make it for themselves. If you offer them for sale you might be surprised how many bites you get.

Probably just busy with work, Germans have this work ethic that doesn't allow them to rest until they do things right...it's like they're got the eveready bunny complex or something.....:laughing9::laughing9::laughing9:

Bart,

Yeah we're quite fortunate with Montreal being an island with the St Lawrence River at our doorstep. I'm only about 500 feet up from the water and can watch ducks, Canada geese and other birds practically on my doorstep.
