Howdy signal,
Makes you wonder why they are called the "Salt" Mountains.

I hear that the Salt River is not salty.
I believe that paper map was made by someone using the PSM's, and trying to put the trail on one paper to use it in the mountains. I believe that's why the arrow points into the heart, indicating it goes there.

Actually, the Salt River does flow over a salt deposit between Salt River Canyon and Roosevelt Lake. The salinity is actually higher than the ocean below this deposit and no fish live in this section of the river for a ways down stream of the deposit. I understand there are some unique micro organisms in that area though. The salinity is diluted back to mostly fresh water well before it reaches Roosevelt Lake. So there you have it. The reason the Salt River has it's name.
I have no comments on the LDM subject. I will be watching the show and hope it doesn't make more fools come out here and die in that rugged part of Az. Not an area for folks to go without having lots of experience in a very rugged desert environment. Dennis
