New metal detecting show to air!

I know this going to sound mean, but I'm not looking forward to this show and I hope it doesn't make it.

This hobby has enough stress on it. It really doesn't need another with a show using planted finds that gives the public silly fantasies about easy riches.

Marauding idiots with detectors leaving holes and trenches in their wake is something we've already got too much of.

Sorry to sound like such a buzz kill, but I've got to be honest, its just the way I feel.

The team has experiance with Garrett and whites as well as my detector the SE, all last year I used the SE and the guys used the AT pro and lets just say I had to get one as my main detector. Truth is people are either going to love or hate the show, it is what it is. ATC doesent make a living detecting and we all have full time jobs that we have to take vacation to film, theres no big money contracts or free equipment its just a fun adventure and we hope that everyone will enjoy some part of it even if it beats watching another repo show.

Make sure to mention that in the show! Tell everyone the ATpro is a better machine! IMO the show will make permissions harder, period. Everyone will be wanting to get around to doing it themselves on their property, problem is they never will and nor will you or I. The attention will get reaction from the archeological community, right or wrong it will give them a mainstream forum as an example. Selfish? Bottom line, someone wants to make money off their hobby!Share the passion, promote what we love. Im a bottle digger, and I have seen it all before. Became Garrett dealers and even put better machines down in order to sell machines to the masses. :BangHead: The videos are great, I love the personalities, very entertaining for me, yet for the general public. A NIGHTMARE!

What a surprise... A dealer pushing a certain brand for more profit............. Now the dealers tell you that what ever detector you ask about is the best............... Of course they still try to push the big buck detector..... Then they get a bigger pay check...... The more a detector cost it means a bigger % of the $ for them..

I have never hunted nor found a meteorite, but I love the show (Meteorite Men) !! I think there is many people out there that has always wanted a metal detector, this show may push them over the edge.... Anyway if its done right I think people will like it... I'm all in!!!! :icon_thumleft:

Well its pretty evident that some people are worried that some mad rush of newbe detectorists is going to invade the US with massive holes and upset the balance of the hobby but like I said before this is nothing new, there are lots of treasure hunting shows that have been done. I will stress that the finds are not planted and are not worth much, its the pleasure of the hobby that is portrayed no drama about trying to make a paycheck or lose their house. This isnt the end of the hobby we will still get permission to hunt areas as good detectorists should do in any state. ATC is a Garrett dealer but we also use other machines and just so happen to be on the AT pro kick right now. ATC isnt a full time dealer we dont have a store and usually the proceeds from DVD and detector sales is used for a trip to the outer banks once a year. I just hope that everyone will watch and enjoy, If you dont want to watch thats OK If you want to watch your grass grow thats OK also. Reguardless there is gonna be a show on for you to watch if you want.

I hope the show does really well just as I hope that folks on TreasureNet do well in their detecting etc. I hardly doubt that a great mass of people will be watching this program while sitting in their easy chair's and then jump up and say "Honey, I'm running down to Walmart to get one of them there metal detectors." The sun will still rise tomorrow.

Well, from seeing what happened here, when our
Find of a lifetime spot hit the papers & TV news stations,
I'm guessing there will be a 1% to 3% increase in detector sales
accross the U.s.
most of those sales will be from Wally-Mart & Radio Shack.
out of that 1% to 3%,
99% will walk into a Yard, Field, beach, whatever on the show
produced what they want to find.
They will spend 5 seconds learning their detector
& 5 Minutes swinging. 20 minutes tops. & unless
they get lucky in that time, the detector will
be something of the past.

and maybe one or 2 will actually Enjoy it,
& have a new Hobby

Im gonna watch it. It is somethingbthat interests me.

I do hope that the show does address responsible MD'ing in regards to permission and clear digging .... that and warning folks to know the law about parks and federal land etc....perhaps as a disclaimer.

I agree with Jeff. That's good, cause you can buy hardly used detectors real cheap. I could make that show interestin, Spart. Who wouldn't be thrilled to see me 'Well, here we are near Poncha Pass, and we have actually located the 'cash-ay' of square nails left by Jesse James. Can't get to em, cause it's startin to rain.' Reality shows are ok, I guess, but unless it's the weather report I pretty much consider the TV somethin to have on to make noise so you don't feel alone. I do have a relative on that one show 'Mudcats', and I look at that a little.

Im glad Im no the only one that feels this way I just went on a rant about the Florida casting call. I had no idea there was one already set to air thats dicouraging.

Will they mention the amount of pull-tabs vs. keeper finds?

This is gonna be awesome!

I can't wait to watch it! How many of us have turned metal detecting from an interest... to a hobby... to a passion... to an obsession?...

How many of us have thought about the MD videos you will make when you get an HD recorder?... and have made videos with your camera and even cell phone?!..LOL

How many of us have actualy been filming a video and have cut... and did a rewind/rerecord on the studder or dig?

How many mini videos have we made of our MD, or spots, or finds on the blogs or YouTube?

How many wives, girlfriends, or significant others have never got into the 'bubble' that we are in, and therefore have no clue?

This show will showboat our hobby...passion... and obsession...

This show will make sure KellyCo builds a west-coast distribution center and the owner gets his Ferrari...

This show will make sure Bart @ BigBoysHobbies (my go-to-guy!) doesn't have to take all my orders on the road and we lose connestion 5 times...

This show will have the wives, girlfriends, and significant others thinking 'wow! he may actually not be nuts!'...

This show will prove there's more to MD than meteorites and an F75 and magnet stick in the Arizona desert...

I can't wait!

Well there is only the two episodes so far and that wouldn't even add up to 2 figures if there was a season:o)

Umm... I was talking about five figures for each episode. I'm sure they are seeing how much advertising they can sell before committing... but still, that ad money ads up for NGC. It's like you take all the risk and they get all the reward. Forget farting around in the dirt for treasure... you have the treasure now just get paid for it. It is VERY hard to get a pilot on air.

Just FYI - a typical quote from a production house would be about $2000 per finished minute of product. This is the base cost for shooting, editing, producing, location, graphics, etc... In other words, if I wanted a production house to put together a full 30 minute show, from cradle to grave, I would be looking at about $45k in costs (each 30 minutes of tv holds about 22 minutes of content and 8 minutes of commercials.).

Our hobby is under threat as it is,and rubbing it in the face of those that despise us is no good.People that want to detect already will.Terrible idea if you ask me!!I spent half the day last weekend filling holes from somebody else! Then calming down ticked off landowners!!

Oh contrare Mofrare! I hunted along side Tim all last year. He used the AT pro and I used the Explorer SE that I have used for years I had him hit every signal that I thought he couldnt pick up and he sure did. Its a wonder of a machine I was shocked.

Ps Love the vid Johnny! :laughing9:
